Hey Seattle beekeepers. It's just about time for those blackberries to start blooming! Sunnier days ahead of this rain should make for a good early flow.

Almost forgot… Happy (belated) World Bee Day!

Quick reminder to the neighbors that I still have jars of Honey Hole Honey available—local Wildflower honey made by my bees who forage around Prichard Beach.

If you’ve been meaning to try a jar (or need a sweet restock), reach out!
$15/jar – I take cash, Zelle, or Venmo.

Also excited to share that I’ll be doing a pop-up at the Filson flagship store on First Ave sometime in August—more details on that soon!

Thanks for supporting local bees and beekeepers!

If you're in Western Washington and looking for a Swarm Trap, my buddy David made some really nice ones. All you need is a coat of paint. David is also the genius behind the UV Blue Entrance Discs - one comes with each Swarm Trap (check out the article in Bee Culture Magazine). Slap on a coat of paint and add a couple frames of drawn out brood comb and you're ready!
If you keep bees and don't have a swarm trap up in your own yard, think of it as a safety net should your own bees swarm. It's a place for them to go (should they choose it) and it's a lot easier than getting them out of a tree. I caught 13 swarms with this same set up last year.

With warmer days on the horizon, I'm getting a few extra Swarm Traps ready to put out. This one I put together using two old wooden nuc boxes, some left over door handle hardware ( to hold the boxes together) and a UV Blue entrance disc from Tiny Layers.

A big thanks to my swarm trap hosts who have allowed me to put swarm traps in their yards this season!

Last year I bought a HiveIQ styrofoam hive to see how a colony would do under PNW conditions. These are a 9 frame box which will not work with my other honey supers. A friend of mine is making these wood adaptors which allow you to add additional supers and even a feeder. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/19jtRrfSWV/

In the Spring we need to feed our Honeybees a 1 to 1 Sugar Syrup which prevents starvation, helps provide resources to build comb and encourages the queen to lay more eggs increasing the size of the colony. Adding just 2 tsp of HiveAlive liquid concentrate will keep you syrup from fermenting but also help the overall gut health of your honeybees. Colonies fed HiveAlive have on average 89% more bees , more brood and more honey.
