Festive merriment awaits in our very own Master of Malt Christmas bottling!

This Christmas cracker from Craigellachie is an 11-year-old single malt, married from a selection of casks for some spot-on seasonal sipping.

Tasting Note:
Nose - Big, bold, juicy layers of vibrant barley, honeyed prunes, and boozy sultanas join tropical notes of dried mango. Creamy butterscotch and toasted marzipan follow in time, with notes of chocolate-coated Brazil nuts in tow.

Palate - Sumptuous layers of golden and maple syrup tangle with barley sugar sweeties, with chewy malt and grilled pineapple joining hazelnut meringue and vanilla cream beneath. A touch of sticky ginger cake and cinnamon warmth develop in time.

Finish - A superb balance of gentle, satisfying spice and juicy, meaty malt, with browned butter, a touch of dried orange, and cinnamon sticks.

If you haven’t come across this distillery, it’s a hidden gem in Pitlochry, Scotland. Owned by Diageo, this is their standout release in the Flora and Fauna series. Exceptional value and rich, sherry notes make it a must-try!

On the nose: Sweet, fruity honey, raisin, and milk chocolate. On the palate: Sticky sweetness, caramel-covered apples, and a touch of spice. Bottled at 43%, it has a nice kick and is well-rounded.

Perfect for cosying up by the fireplace this autumn.

What does a smaller cask do to whisky? A smaller cask impacts whisky maturation by increasing the wood surface area relative to the liquid, allowing more interaction between the oak and the spirit. This can speed up maturation, making the whisky feel more mature despite its actual age. For example, a whisky aged for three years in a smaller cask will still be three years old but may taste more mature due to the increased oak interaction. However, distillers must balance this accelerated maturation to avoid over-oaking, which can result in a harsh, bitter whisky. The key is finding the right interplay between delicacy and richness, ensuring the whisky develops a balanced flavour profile.

This English single malt joins the Expedition Series from Yorkshire's net zero Cooper King distillery. It's produced from floor-malted heritage grains, hand-mashed, long-fermented, and copper pot distilled before maturing on site. 68% of the spirit was filled into dark-fired bourbon casks, while the remainder began in red wine casks, and finished in bourbon casks to create a vibrant whisky with the perfect profile for sipping beside a fire. Tasting Note: Nose Notes of banana bread and dark cherry chocolate join earthy, woody spice beneath. Palate Toffee apple joins soft notes of charred oak, smoked caramel, and cakey spice. What is the difference between whisky and whiskey? So there are, of course, as I'm sure you'll know different spellings of the word whiskey and it comes down to many potential different reasons. But what you should mostly know is that generally speaking, whiskey with an E tends to come from Ireland. So the Irish tend to use that as spelling and for a long time, all of the Americans did. Well, what's kind of happened over the last 5 or 10 years is that there have been hundreds of distilleries opening up across the United States and all of those distilleries are deciding to spell it the way they want to spell it. So it isn't necessarily an indication that you see it with an E or without an E and you're like, ok, well, that's definitely from America or Ireland. The rest of the world, Canada, Japan, of course, Scotland tend to spell it without any E and there are many, many tales as to why this is, but because it's such a controversial topic and there's many stories out there about where this originates. For those who enjoy a longer martini, this cocktail is a must-try. The sherry adds an extra layer of flavor, elevating the drink to a new level of sophistication. Add 50ml gin, 25ml dry vermouth and 25ml fino sherry into a highball glass filled with large cubes of ice and stir before topping it up with tonic water and garnishing with a few olives on a stick.
