Kings Head Pale Ale (5.2%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“Approachable, sessionable and undoubtedly moreish, The Kings Head Pale Ale is a delicious and refreshing take on the craft American Pale Ale style. A rich malt profile complemented with Amarillo, Citra and Motueka hops, makes for a King’s ransom in flavour, balance, and ultimate refreshment.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
Wasn’t expecting the flavours initially, but were perfect for a rainy evening in the nation’s capital. The bitter style of an American Pale Ale certainly come through but are not overpowering. The roasted malt flavours shine through and provide a well-rounded beer.

Point Perp Pilsner (4.5%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“An old-school classic style meets the new world in our twist on a pilsner. Cool fermented with European yeast for a dry, crisp finish but with flavour and aroma imparted through delicate use of New Zealand Motueka hops, this pils has plenty to interest craft beer enthusiasts yet is accessible to all. Just like the famous Jervis Bay climbing mecca it’s named after, this beer is straight up and heaps of fun.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
It’s not often that a beer can properly embody a location, but overlooking the water and with a clear blue sky on a Sunday afternoon, this Pilsner is hard to go past.

This craft beer is infused with the luscious flavors of stone fruits, with a pronounced note of apricot leading the palate, complemented subtly by the tartness of grapefruit. The blend of these flavors offers a refreshing complexity, enhancing the beer’s hop profile and delivering a balance between sweetness and a hint of citrus bitterness. .brewing Rule 46 Red IPA (6.0%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“Marking the 10th collaboration, we’ve ventured into a brew revered for its intricate balance and interplay between malt and hops – a Red IPA. Its captivating deep red tone accentuates vibrant notes of rockmelon, sun-kissed pineapple, and candied fruit, all blanketed by a rich malt aroma.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
This Red IPA introduces a unique fusion of flavours, where the smooth, rich essence of vanilla leads the sensory journey, followed by intriguing whispers of star anise, adding a subtle liquorice-like depth that complements the malt’s natural sweetness. Its amber-red hue glows invitingly, setting the stage for the beer’s robust body and the complex interplay between the hops’ bitterness and the aromatic sweetness of the vanilla and star anise. This blend not only accentuates the IPA’s characteristic hoppy profile but also introduces a warm, spiced layer, making each sip a discovery of flavours that are both comforting and boldly adventurous.

Puteketeke Pils (5.0%)

DESCRIBED AS:

BROTHERS’ RATING
Envision a Pilsner that celebrates the Puteketeke, New Zealand’s treasured 2023 Bird of the Century, famously spotlighted on . This beer merges the classic crispness of a Pilsner with a burst of unique fruity notes, paying homage to New Zealand’s rich flora. Instead, it leans into the subtler sides of the fruit spectrum, featuring hints of passion fruit and local botanicals, thanks to the distinctive New Zealand hops. North East Draught (NED) (4%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“North East Draught is an easy drinking Aussie draught. Clean and crisp with a soft bitterness.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
Envision a draught beer perfectly marrying the boldness of bitterness with the warmth of malt, all under a rich amber glow. Each sip introduces a pronounced hoppy bitterness, beautifully mellowed by malty sweetness, creating a delightful complexity. This intricate dance of flavors is then elevated by subtle citrus notes, not of sharp lime, but the nuanced zest of orange peel and the refreshing acidity of grapefruit. These elements combine to cut through the malt, adding layers and refreshing the palate. This beer is an artful blend of contrasts, offering a rich and intriguing drinking experience.

Pale Ale (4.90%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“With precise timing, carefully selected hops are added at different stages during the brewing process. This results in a distinct bright, citrusy and floral hop character, and adds a thirst quenching bitterness.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
A distinct bitterness at the end of the taste is a turn away from the predominant fruity flavours of the current pale ales, it’s a worthy drink as the months become cooler.

Japanese Style Lager (4.5%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“Japanese Style Lager is a modern dry rice lager that tastes as if it’s been yanked right from the streets of Tokyo. Unlike the alley ways of the Golden G*i, there’s nowhere to hide here. A base of Pilsner malt and flaked rice provide and ultra light bodied and colored beer with brightness reminiscent of the neon lights of the Shibuya skyline. A hint of residual sweetness is balanced out by a subtle herbal bite from a dash of hops, resulting in a dry, crisp and refreshing finish that’ll leave you wanting more.”

THE VERDICT
Some of the biggest beer companies in the world hail from Japan, so the expectations start high. But I guess it helps when you’re owned by Asahi! This is a decent replication of the Japanese lager style, with a distinct lack of the ‘baked bean’ aftertaste, making it an even easier beer to drink! If you’re a Lager Luminary, this is definitely worth a try!

### Ale (4.8%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“Back in 1883, James Boag’s ### Ale had an unassuming name for a flavoursome, full-strength beer. And more than 100 years later, ### Ale is still brewed skilfully by infusion to produce a strong, colourful, uniquely Tasmania beer.

Another of our brands that has the strength of character to stay close to home (it’s only available in Tasmania) and do consistently good work, James Boag’s ### Ale has a proud cadre of local followers, who enjoy it just as much as their ancestors did before them.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
You get the malt tones as you enjoy a traditional Tasmanian beer.

Heffeweissbeir (5.4%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“Our golden-yellow wheat beer, with its fine-pored white foam, smells of cloves and impresses consumers with its refreshing banana flavour. It is full bodied and with a smooth yeast taste. To be enjoyed at any time (always a pleasure / enjoyment), goes excellently with fish and seafood, with spicy cheese and especially with the traditional Bavarian veal sausage. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
A nice mix of the other two beers. Definitely more drinkable than the Vitus.

Vitus (7.7%)

DESCRIBED AS:
“Weihenstephaner's light-coloured, spicy single-bock, “Vitus” is saturated with fine yeast and a creamy foam. It is a specialty with a round character based on the extra long storage time. The fruity smell of dried apricots joins aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel.”

BROTHERS’ RATING
Reminds one of a fruitcake by a fire at Christmas time, if you lived in Europe as opposed to a balmy summer’s evening in the Great Land Down Under. Not a beer I’d drink often but it’s definitely worth a shot if you like fruitcake.

BROTHERS’ RATING
Can’t think of a better way to start an Oktoberfest session than a party beer!
