HB Imports began in the fall of 2000 when I studied in Heidelberg, Germany for my International Business and German degree at North Central College in Naperville, IL. During my studies in Germany, I met Markus Hilsenbeck and his family from Ulm. He was proud to tell me that the Hilsenbecks had a brewery in Gruibingen, just northwest of Ulm. When Markus took me to the brewery to buy beer, I was ver

y impressed how good the beer was and thought it would be a great idea to import the beer to the United States. As the years went by, I still dreamed of starting an import company to bring the Hilsenbeck Bier to the States. In 2004, I joined the Business Men’s Flying Club in Naperville, IL where I met Kris Queen, who would later become my business partner in HB Imports. In 2012, I took my wife and family to Germany to visit Markus. Of course, we had to make a trip to the brewery to buy beer to bring home. While at the brewery we met Hans Dieter Hilsenbeck, the brew master of Lammbrauerei Hilsenbeck, and I was able to propose the idea of importing Hilsenbeck Bier into the US, which he liked the idea. Luckily, Lammbrauerei Hilsenbeck was expanding their brewing capacity and would be able to handle the demands of exporting their beer. I proposed the idea of starting an import company to Kris and he was on board with the idea. HB Imports is an Illinois licensed Foreign Importer and Distribution company. Our goal is deliver premium German lagers from Lammbrauerei Hilsenbeck.

As a veteran who is currently serving in the military, I have an appreciation for fellow veteran owned businesses.

After the 9/11 attacks, 12 Green Berets were the first American soldiers into Afghanistan. They were challenged by fighting on horseback and extremely difficult terrain. 20 years later, a few of these men founded American Freedom Distillery.
