Meet the Winemaker 🍷 This week we'd like to introduce the face behind some of our best-selling wines from B&G. Laurent Prada is Head Winemaker at Barton & Guestier. He has worked in the wine industry for 35 years, carrying out his first winemaking in 1989. Since then he has worked mainly in France in various regions such as Gard, Champagne, Beaujolais and Bordeaux 🇫🇷
❔Why have you chosen a career in the wine industry?
🍷The passion for wine. I am originally from Bordeaux and I made my first harvests very young. I have always grown up in the world of wine and it has always been obvious to work in this sector of activity.
❔What does a typical day at the vineyard look like?
🍷 I would say that there is not a typical day in the vineyard. We carefully follow the growth of the vines and above all we observe the weather because it determines the course of action to be taken for the vineyard.
❔Favourite type of wine?
🍷On one hand, aromatic and fresh white wines and on the other hand, powerful and structured Médoc red wines.

Let's meet the winemaker. At DrinkWell we work with a huge variety of independent, innovative producers across the globe. This week we want to introduce Carolina Reyes from Marquez winery and producer of the Tierra De Estrellas and Tierra Del Rey Sauvignon Blancs.
❔How long have you been in the wine industry for?
🍷The Marquez Family entered the world of wine around 100 years ago, with Osvaldo Marquez Vidal, then his son Osvaldo Marquez Bisquett gave it the name of Viña Marquez, he bought new orchards, a new winery, planted new varieties and began the expansion of the vineyard. In the year 2.000, the first wine exportation took place and since then we have been in the international market
❔What is your favourite type of wine?
🍷Aromatic, with good structure, easy to drink. Regarding the varieties, in white, Sauvignon Blanc and in red, Cabernet Sauvignon.
❔How is the wine made?
🍷We harvest the grapes at the indicated time, according to the parameters defined by the winemaker. We harvest in the mornings, looking for low to moderate temperatures. We then press the wine at low temperatures, separate the lees from the juice, and ferment with selected yeasts and nutrients.

Here is your guide to how to properly taste wine ahead of the weekend!
Step 1: Pour your drink and take a look at it. What colours can you see? Just having a good look at the wine can actually reveal a lot about it.
Step 2: Swirl. Swirling the wine in the glass is an important step. It allows oxygen to enter the wine and allows the flavours to open up and the aromas to rise to the top of the glass, ready for tasting. You should swirl the wine for 10-12 secs.
Step 3: Smell. Get your nose right into the glass and inhale deeply. Often our smell can be more powerful that our taste.
Step 4: The most important step, taste! Take a little sip and let the wine sit in your mouth for a bit. Swirl it around and breathe in. You want to look out for things like the body, sweetness, bitterness and warmth.
