There are only a few major Farms that produce the world-renowned Guimaras mangoes -- all the rest are either their contractors, or coop. As many would make it, this is not mango season in that area. Somehow one farm managed to be productive during the rainy months, and are now gearing up for a good harvest this coming December. ;) If I read the lines correctly, they'll be the only ones to produce fresh Guimaras mangoes come Christmas season.

Part of their preparation is to build a special store in their farm, to display their produce in the most unique and aesthetic way. As such, the Fil-Scottish family commissioned a few produce boxes to start, and eventually grow into local, expat, and export sales.

These produce boxes are made of Mahogany, with handcrafted Cebu solihiya. The vents are strategically placed to make sure the produce stays fresh through proper ventilation. The inside is food-grade finished with beeswax, and the placed with absorbent lining. It opens and stays at a 90-degree angle, and the outside is treated with a high-gloss finish. It's topped off by engraving their custom logo on the front. The pieces are finger-jointed, and save for the latch, no nails nor screws were used in the build.

I'm happy that there are no revisions on the pieces, and that their only request is to have it signed by the maker. For that, I am truly humbled.

These are on their way to Guimaras on Thursday. May they bring more sales to the farm, and live up to the world-class identity of it's produce.

These trays took a while to finish, but seeing them like this makes it worthwhile.

No stains were used in the finishing process. These are their natural shades.

Almost there.

These, I think, are for overseas clients. Makes me realize that I have pieces in 3 continents, but I myself have never left the country.

Guijo and solihiya work well together though.

Haven't been able to use the car for a while now, and decided to commute from Parañaque to my supplier - situated at the foot of a mountain. It was an adventure, getting directions from a former classmate, to a place which he calls "par awey ser, par awey."

I was able to replenish my stock, to get some premium items done for an upcoming bridal fair in Bacolod :) Met with a good friend too, and had an amazing conversation about life and claustrophobia. Haven't laughed that hard in a long time, while enjoying the fresh air, and the after-rainfall fog.

Today is a good day.

Just before I went on Facebook fasting, a friend and I connected after a long time. Our conversation revolved around making prayer boxes, have them done thoughtfully, and hopefully finish by Easter. Days went by, Easter came, and I still wasn't done. I had ideas in mind, but I wanted something that speaks to me as a person, and would have an impact for others, too. When the idea came, I knew it didn't come from my feeble mind. Improvements were made as the build progressed, and little-by-little, it all came together. I had a long-standing devotion to St. Joseph, and doing things in his favor is always in my heart.

This piece is made from African obeche and spalted guijo. I chose them both as their contrast represents how the light and dark experiences play in life. Each shade makes the other more beautiful, and more embracing of their flaws. Guijo itself is not easy to find, moreso, a spalted one. It's rarity makes it more fitting to hold the image of St. Joseph. The Image itself was sent this morning to have installed. I do have my own, but my wife and I noticed that this one was better crafted. As I was installing it, the bottom read that it was from the PH visit of Pope Francis :). Remarkable. This is a lift-lid piece, and no nails and screws were used in building the prayer box.

Pope Francis has a sleeping St Joseph on his desk as a reminder of his peaceful surrender to God's plan for his life. If you find yourself wanting to reach out, kwento mo lang kay Lord, lagi syang nakikinig - no contempt, no judgement.
