How Friendly Package Came to Be...

Friendly Package Liquors is a locally owned family business. The business was started in a very small storefront in downtown Yorktown in 1984. Mike and Sandy Kilgore the original owners moved to the new location at the corner of Nebo and Kilgore within a few years. They went on to purchase another location in Muncie and one in Chesterfield.

Rob and Melissa met while working at Friendly Package in college in 1998. Melissa graduated from BSU and went on to teaching first grade while Rob continued with the company into management. In 2000 he helped with the grand opening of the campus location. In 2005 he started studying wine and became the wine buyer for Friendly Package. Melissa’s parents started talking about wanting to retire soon, so in 2013 Melissa left her teaching career to come back to the family business. In September of 2017, Melissa and Rob purchased Friendly Package from her parents.

Melissa and Rob enjoy seeing and speaking with their customers in the store. They know the importance of customer service in this business, of community support when running a small family owned business. For those reasons, they appreciate everyone that makes the choice to shop local.
