NIGHTOWL LISMORE CLOSING DOWN SALE

After 15 years opening every single day of the year, serving anything from 300 to 700 customers per day, the NightOwl Lismore Convenience Store has opened for the last time on 27 February 2022. That is right, it was the day before the Catastrophic Flood in town that completely destroyed our store in the heart of the town’s CBD.
It is very difficult to say goodbye, but it is much harder to try to stay, rebuild to reopen turned up to be an impossible task.
We managed the store for the last five years, from November 2016. It has been difficult years, with a major flood in 2017, then two years of Covid that caused a huge downturn in the daily trade, and when the trading was just picking up again early this year – BANG, the February flood was the last nail in the coffin.
We must vacate the premises by this Sunday 14th August, so we are doing a CLOSING DOWN SALE this week till Sunday, as we have equipment that were not affected by the flood (few refrigeration units, a turbo oven and some other store items and fittings). Unsold items will be relocated and available for sale till all is sold.
We THANK very much all our Customers that supported us during all those years, we had lots of fun, laughter and made many friends. We miss you all.
We also wish good luck to our city and to the other business, that we will continue to support and patronage, particularly during this very difficult time when we are all suffering.

Hello to all,
Sorry we haven’t posted here since the terrible night of the Lismore great flood. It has been very challenging few weeks.

Unfortunately, our NightOwl Lismore store was destroyed in the Lismore Catastrophic Flood on 28th Feb., with flood high reaching one meter above the second floor, where we had placed all our stock and equipment for safety, as per our ‘good’ Major Flood Plan (12 meters).

As we spent the night upstairs at Miss Lua's SharpDance, my daughter Luacy and I had to be rescued by boat from the awning at 7am. The flood was already at the awning, 4.3 meters high and it peaked at 4.6 metres. At the 2017 flood level, we would be back operating with minimum loss, but this unprecedented flood level was three meters higher, so we lost everything.

Lismore has been declared a natural disaster area.

Over seven weeks on, and after a second Major Flood on 30th March, there is still no power in our CBD store. Our store is still in the demolition phase, no insurance, and no sign of government grant so far.

Our loss is huge (damaged stock alone was $85k, walking freezer $40k, walking coolroom $60k, plus equipment, computers, tills, counter, fittings, CCTV cameras, and much more - not mentioning demolishing costs, electrical rewire, etc) and no sales since the 28Feb. flood day.

WE ARE OPEN SUNDAY 27th FEB. FROM 8AM.
We have already taken a lot of the store stock upstairs (thanks to friends help), but we are still opening this Sunday while implementing our Flood Plan.

This is the first time in 5 years we will not be spending the NY night at the shop, but with family and friends instead.
