Boillot's estate 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles delivers the vibratory interplay of floral, mineral, and fruit elements that one hopes for from this great site in its vintage. Reminiscent of the Perrieres in aromas of peach and quince, here allied to iris and suggestions of high-toned herbal and floral distillates, this lights up the palate, with citrus and hints of nettle and white pepper serving for an almost electric invigoration. Yet, ample glycerin makes for a flattering texture and ameliorates any tendency toward sharpness. It should perform beautifully over the coming decade, doubtless gaining richness in the process. Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2013, 2nd Growth, Pauillac

Potentially the best of all the Pauillacs in 2013 (along with Mouton Rothschild), Pichon Baron is dense purple to the rim, which is not typical in this vintage, and exhibits stunning creme de cassis notes along with licorice, forest floor and white flowers. It is medium-bodied, but very complete, with serious texture, impressive purity, depth and ripe tannins on the finish. This is another 2013 that tastes atypically full and impressive. The final blend from a tiny crop at Pichon Longueville Baron was 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot. (91-93 Points Robert Parker)

The 2003 La Romanée Grand Cru bottled by Bouchard Père & Fils has a bright ruby colour. The bouquet is attractive for such a warm vintage having retained plenty of freshness. Mulberry mixed with leather and later blackcurrant pastille that are nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, quite soft tannin, but there is a grittiness and slight dryness that surfaces toward the second half. It is a commendable expression on the finish and the spicy, black pepper finish is enticing, but I maintain that the mineralité and tension was erased by the heat of that summer. Gevrey Chambertin "Lavaux St Jacques" has a magnificient deep color. The smell is pure and you can find small black fruits, leather and spice aromas. In contrast to the expressiveness of the Lavaut, this is quite restrained with cool red stone-infused aromas that possess a background trace of Gevrey-style earth and game. The detailed and energetic flavors possess good depth on the linear and mildly austere finish. Powerful and concentration go with a good tannic structure. Its lasting in the mouth is surprising. Here the reduction, while present, is less obvious and more of a background nuance and does not materially detract from the ripe and earthy dark fruit aromas that precede the full-bodied, concentrated and powerful flavors and while the reduction also resurfaces on the long finish, it is quite subtle. My score awards the benefit of the doubt that the reduction will either naturally dissipate or will be able to be dissipated by a thorough aeration. (92 Points Allen Meadows – Burghound)
