Grüner Veltliner is a grape variety which we absolutely love at vinofactum. Home to Central Europe, it’s the most planted grape variety in Austria 🇦🇹 second most popular in the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 and can also be found in Slovakia 🇸🇰& Hungary 🇭🇺.
Grüner is wonderful at expressing terroir while remaining its own characteristics - apples, lime/lemon, grapefruit, lemon zest and white pepper. It’s also a versatile companion on the dinner table 🥙🍲
This particular wine is Grüner Veltliner from from a loess soil which is a great expression of the Bořetice terroir, South Moravia. 3-day skin-contact gave this wine much richer aromatics and supported the already typical spiciness of Grüner Veltliner. Expect a balanced, full-bodied wine which is already nicely aged and still has the potential to age further in the bottle. Fantastic wine for fine gastronomy and a great bottle to impress your wine nerd friends with.

Ruš Orange 2021 and Neruš Orange 2020. I know it’s not about the label but I can’t walk past these bottles indifferently when I’m at the warehouse. And the wines are as good as the labels.
They were made by Iva Měřínská . A winemaker whose 1.5 ha vineyard is located in South Moravia, Czechia. I always thought that Iva was the queen of orange wine but then I tried her barrique- and bottle-aged reds and they blew my mind. So Iva is the Queen of Wine. Period. Last time I saw her was at where she rocked up to in style with a spittoon with a photo of her cat.

✨ Winemaker Spotlight ✨
Martin Vajčner ( ) works with ~5 hectares of vineyards in the region of Znojmo (South Moravia, Czechia). Some of his plots lie on the territory of a national park. Can it get any more pristine than that? 🌳🤷🏼♀️
The grapes are hand-harvested and foot-trodden. Martin doesn’t shy away from working with local wood and even local clay to focus on materials available nearby and to reduce carbon footprint ☘️
Why do we like his wines? Firstly, because each one of them is a great expression of the local terroir. Secondly, because Martin likes experimenting. He often doesn’t produce the same wine year-to-year. So every vintage is “like a box of chocolates - you never know what you’re gonna get” 🦄 But you know it’s always going to be awesome 🤩
Pssst… our wines are vegan! 🥬
But what does it mean? Wine is made from grapes in the end so why even bother to state this? 🤷🏼♀️
It’s about the products used for clarifying and stabilising the wine before bottling. These can be animal-derived, such as egg white and gelatine. So when a wine is vegan, it means that no animal-derived products were used for clarifying and stabilising the wine or that the wine was not clarified at all 🤓

📖A dry, full-bodied white aged in Czech and Hungarian oak barrels for 18 months.
With it’s full body, creaminess and oak-derived aromas/ flavours of vanilla, nutmeg, clove and butterscotch, it’s an absolute match for the season.
🎃 Goes like a dream with a creamy pumpkin soup due to its roundness and baking spice aromas/flavours.

We swear by this pét-nat and its ability to brighten up one’s day. Whaam! 2022 - 100% organically grown Welschriesling from Juicy and fun, with aromas of lemon, pomelo, tangerine and a hint elderflower. Summer in a bottle 🌻

Happy International Pinot Noir Day! 🍷
Oh, Pinot Noir, “the heartbreak” grape. High-maintenance and fickle. Mutates easily. Its thin skin makes it split in no time hence prone to fungal diseases. Highly sensitive to climate changes and variations in soil structure. Oxidises fast during winemaking.
So why bother? Because if you pay it enough attention, my oh my, it gives back generously.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate there two bottles:
🍇The top bottle is Sweet Pinot Dreams 2022 by - a 100% Pinot Noir dry rosé (that actually was supposed to be a pét-nat but Mother Nature had different plans for this one). It comes from one of the warmest areas in South Moravia. This, combined with sandy soils that retain the heat but also provide good water drainage, helps the grapes achieve ripeness and high concentration while maintaining uplifting acidity. Bottled from stainless steel and designed to be drank young. It’s uncomplicated, fun, light, and bursting with aromas of red berries. Pairs well with light salads, fruit-forward desserts and summer picnics.
🍇 The bottom wine is Pinot Noir 2019 by . 2019 was an exceptionally warm vintage in the area. This, plus the high stone content that retains the heat, warmed the grapes nicely to achieve full ripeness. And it shows in the wine. It has good structure with soft tannins and pronounced aromas of red berries. 12 months in oak barriques give it aromas of vanilla, clove and nutmeg. Further 2 years of aging in bottle made it develop earthy and figgy characteristics. Elegant and complex yet very approachable. It can be drunk now but also has aging potential. Great dinner companion. Pairs superbly with mushroom-based dishes, duck and root vegetables.
We love these two because they’re fabulous of course 😁 But they’re also perfect examples of how the terroir and the winemaking decisions taken in the winery result in completely different styles of the final wine.

Our current favourite - Orange Sauvignon Blanc from 🧡
Bursting with aromas of mango, passion fruit, peach and orange peel. 3 weeks skin contact gave the wine this mesmerising colour yet kept the tannins pretty soft. Best served chilled and shared with friends ☀️

All Central European low intervention wine lovers, no plans for next weekend yet? Join us in , the picturesque wine making town in South Moravia, Czechia, that every last July weekend of the year becomes the epicentre of wineries who make wine in harmony with nature.
Expect two days of unlimited tastings of wines from .omasta .info .vinice .hummel and many more from Czechia, Slovakia, Austria and even one winery from Georgia.
Berliners - there’s a direct train from Berlin to Břeclav and from there it’s just a bus ride away to Velké Bílovice.
Tickets are only sold on-site. We kick it off on Friday at 4pm, and again on Saturday from 2-8pm with a small afterparty.

🍇 Because of the size of the wineries we work with, sometimes scarcity must be built into the equation
🍇 We see it as a benefit, not a problem. Our wines are unique and produced in a sustainable manner!
🍇 Most of our customers are genuinely interested in wines produced sustainably, they want to know the story behind them and even have their specific producers they want to support
🍇 Therefore they’re willing to accept the scarcity and switch to an alternative wine from our portfolio
