On Tuesday, July 9 we're thrilled to host a meet and greet with Daughters Cider at Archive Wine Bar.

Brothers Dave and Paul Stewart are co-founders of Southern Ontario's Daughters Cider, a small, farm-based family company. They craft their small batch ciders by hand, using heritage apples, low intervention, and slow, long fermentation.

We'll be at Archive from 12-4pm with Dave and Paul to share two of their current release ciders: Cider 2021, and Kilbank Organic 2021.

It was fantastic to catch up and taste through the portfolio with Martin and Martin Jr (and feast in their onsite restaurant – thanks Chef Bertram 🥂

Style: Red

Description:

This youthful red may show a (Canadian themed!) comic on the label, but make no mistake, this is a serious wine, from one of the world's top winemakers, Dirk Niepoort.
This is a blend of touriga franca, touriga nacional, tinta roriz, tinta amarela from the Cima Corgo's schistous soils, and vines up to 40 years in age. This was native fermented in stainless, and aged in a mix of stainless and oak for 6 months. Fresh and fragrant, with black raspberry, cherry, plum filling a juicy core. Wrapped with slight, sticky tannins, and buoyed by bright acidity, this friendly, smart red is primed for drinking now, all at a welcome 12.5%.

Description:

This is a new village level release, from Bisamberg's loess soils. This GV had a little skin contact, and was native fermented in stainless, with no MLF. Streaming and arrow sleek, with green apple, Asian pear, quince, and buzzy saline / spices washing over the finish.

A fantastic pet-nat from Emilia-Romagna's Mirco Mariotti

Style: Sparkling - Petnat

Description:

Mirco Mariotti makes natural wines in the Bosco Eliceo area in the eastern part of Emilia-Romagna. The vines grow 300 meters from the Adriatic sea and many are well over 100 years old. They are gnarly non-grafted vines with roots that dig as deep as two meters in the sandy soil and into the aquifer below. Mariotti’s wines are named after local card games the locals play.

This pét-nat of 70% trebbiano and 30% malvasia di candia is from 50-100 year old vines. Lightly fizzy, with white melon, tart tangerine, white pepper on a brisk, lightly astringent palate.
Refreshing and lively at 12%.

We're thrilled to receive the latest releases of one of Tuscany's rarest wines, Il Caberlot from Podere Il Carnasciale.

The romance of Il Caberlot started in the 1960s when Remigo Bordini discovered a unique clone growing in Veneto. The clone was a mysterious genetic mutation of Cabernet Franc which had characteristics of Merlot grapes. Remigo joined forces with Bettina and Wolf Rogosky to start planting this unique grape in 1986, in a vineyard of less than one acre. The Rogoskys were so excited about their newfound variety that they decided to plant a bottle of Sassicaia under the first Caberlot vine as a sign of positive energy.

Benjamin Passot is Burgundian by birth, with his professional experience acquired over several years on the Vosne Romanée terroirs. He created his Beaujolais domaine in 2017 in Juliénas, and today the estate owns more than 3.5 hectares of vines, growing to include the crus Moulin à vent, Morgon, Chiroubles, and Chénas.

The grapes are sustainably managed, hand harvested, and the wines are native fermented and aged in barrels.

This Grand Rosé is roughly equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (8% still Pinot) sourced from Avize, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Cuis, Pierry, and Rilly. Reserve wines spanning 6-8 years makes up about 15% of the blend, and this was disgorged with 8 g/L. This pours a deep peach hue, and streams with wild raspberry, strawberry, red apple lit with lemon pith across an expansive palate, shimmering with minerality on the finish. Quite sweet fruited, but with structure, chill and enjoy with bouillabaisse.

No Dijon clones were harmed in the making of this wine. Though Dijon clones are prevalent throughout the Willamette, they wanted to create a wine using only heirloom clones. This was a blend of Mount Eden, Swan, Mariafeld, with 30% whole cluster, aged in neutral French oak. Fragrant black cherry, wild raspberry, black tea flood the juicy palate, with finely sticky, long tannins housing the pure fruit. The finish lingers with dried florals and salinity. Quite lovely and multilayered, and a wonderfully different lens with which to view Willamette Pinot.

This 🌱biodynamic, massale selection Garnacha Pelluda (aka Hairy Grenache) is rooted on a 400m terrace facing north, protected by easterly-wind forests that give it a unique expression. Calciferous-clay, partly loess, soil gives it a unique finesse, resulting in an airy, delicate, and subtle Garnacha. After a native ferment, it aged for 1 year in French barrels. Wild cherry and raspberry are seasoned with wild mint, white pepper, and wildflowers, rasped with fine spices and mustard seed. There’s a light grip of tannins framing this structural, finessed, and bright red, finishing with a lingering herbal scrub. Alluring.
