It’s finally Friday, time for some cask strength 125 proof American single malt. If you are a fan of the ASM category and flavor profile, this is definitely one of my favorites! Do you prefer to try cask strength or single barrel varieties when trying a new whiskey brand?

22 yr old single barrel Canadian rye whiskey at 118.6 proof with a 91/9 rye/corn mash bill named “Blame Canada!” is my pour tonight. Golden raisins, figs, toasted almonds, apricot shortbread cookies, and heavy dash of coriander spice makes this a great cold weather pour! Do you enjoy Canadian ryes?

When it comes to finished whiskey, do you prefer spirit or wood finishes? Would you pick 100 proof Kentucky bourbon finished in Mizunara oak casks with tangerine and juniper notes or Tokaji wine casks with grape nerds and boysenberry notes?

Going with some 7 yr Soft Red Wheat SiB pick titled Under Their Influence that and I helped pick back in June. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try Holladay distillery yet, I definitely recommend you do. This one brings honey crisp apples and melon notes on the nose, clove and molasses cookies on the palate, and honeycomb and tangerine on the finish at 128.5 proof. With the ice and snow coming tomorrow, this will definitely keep me warm!

Tonight I’m popping the new store pick of titled Old Faithful. At 109 proof and around 5 years old, this single barrel gives notes of raspberry jam, fluffernutter sandwiches, and a heavy dash of cinnamon. What bottles have you popped since the start of the new year?

Prepping for New Year’s Eve by popping the 2025 New Year release. This release is a blend of 5-12 yr old KY, IN, TN, WY, NY, TX, OH, and MD bourbons at 112.1 proof. The nose brings notes of brown sugar cinnamon rolls, almonds, and clove followed by cherry cheesecake and oak on the palate with a leather, tootsie roll, and light mint finish. All around, this is just a great bourbon. Are you pouring something special tomorrow night?

Starting off this Saturday night with a pick of - a 4 year old bottled-in-bond that brings notes of cherry Dr Pepper, peanut brittle, clove, and kiwi. For an under $40 bottle, this was a fun one to help pick! Have you tried anything Rittenhouse Rye picks yet? Do you have a favorite “budget” rye?

Let the holiday break commence! Time to celebrate with a pour of 1928, a blend of straight rye, Calvados, and Armagnac at 100 proof. With notes of apricot jelly, poached pears, and pineapple upside down cake, this one makes a great dessert pour. What are you starting the holiday break off with?

Some with a coffee flight. The Long Jump is their dark roast which gives notes of charred marshmallows, dark chocolate, and roasted chestnuts. The Flo is a medium roast and is the most traditional flavor profile in my opinion with notes of cocoa and roasted hazelnut with just a hint of lime. Lastly, the Sun Peel is a light roast and my personal favorite with notes of lemon zest, strawberry, and chocolate covered almond. Which would you try first? Do you have a preference when it comes to roast levels?

What is a cask finish that you always get excited about? Personally, I always love trying new honey cask finishes because I find, when they are done well, the honey allows the whiskey to shine on its own on the palate before coming through on the finish.

Saturday night pours with Desparada, a 6 yr, 101 proof, KY rye finished in white wine barrels. Caramel corn and sweet mint on the nose followed by strawberry nerds and white pepper on the palate with a honeysuckle and date on the finish.

Peach cobbler sums up this Grizzly Beast BiB, 100 proof, four grain, 5 yr age stated bourbon and honestly I’m a fan of it. The full list of notes include: Honey Nut Cheerios on the nose, syrupy peaches, cantaloupe, and pie crust on the palate, and Frosted Flake and vanilla cream on the finish. Have you tried this release yet? Would you want to based on these notes?

Monday motivation with the new Ice Wine finish that was kindly gifted to me. This blend of 5-15 year old bourbons from IN, KY, TN, and WY is 106.52 proof and gives notes of almond paste, fennel, and fresh strawberries on the nose followed by iced gingerbread cookies, cranberries, and black tea on the palate with a to***co, black cherry, and butterscotch finish.
