All Changlang District Students' Union Objects to New Enrollment of Chakma and Hajong in Electoral Roll

Changlang, 6 October 2023: In a significant development, the All Changlang District Students' Union (ACDSU) has raised strong objections and called for the immediate cancellation of the new enrollment of Chakma and Hajong communities in the Electoral Roll of Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

In a formal letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Changlang, the ACDSU expressed its deep concern over the ongoing enrollment process, asserting that it directly infringes upon the sentiments of the indigenous people of Changlang and the broader state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The ACDSU, being the apex body representing the student community in the district, has a long-standing history of opposing the settlement of refugees and illegal immigrants. The union alleges that certain individuals from the Chakma and Hajong communities are obtaining certificates to establish themselves as permanent citizens of Changlang, potentially leading to manipulation and misuse of voting rights. Mizo National Front Unveils Election Candidates with Only Two Female Nominees

Mizoram, 5 October 2023: The Mizo National Front (MNF) revealed its roster of candidates for the 40-member assembly during an event conducted on Wednesday. Chief Minister Zoramthanga graced the occasion, seeking public support and expressing confidence in the party's ability to secure governance once again.

The current ruling party of the state has nominated just two female candidates. B Lalawmpuii will contest from the Aizawl East II constituency, while Prova Chakma will represent the party in the West Tuipui constituency. The list of candidates includes 15 new names.

With a history spanning six decades, Chief Minister Zoramthanga emphasized the MNF's enduring commitment to Mizoram's people. Protest Vigil Calls for Justice Amid Alleged Forest Killing

Khonsa, 27 Sept 2023: A candlelight vigil was organized by various organizations in Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts, alleging the cold-blooded murder of Lokhi Wangsu. They claim that Lokhi Wangsu was fatally shot by forest battalion personnel from Assam's Dibrugarh district while he was searching for his missing cow in a reserved forest area on the morning of 18 September.

These organizations strongly condemned the brutal killing and called for the immediate formation of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the case and apprehend those responsible for the murder.

Furthermore, they urged authorities to engage in discussions with their Assam counterparts to halt patrolling by Assam forest guards and battalions in the Towang Reserved Forest until the Namsai Declaration is resolved by both Assam and Arunachal governments.

Their demands also included an increase in the number of forest guards in the Borduria range, compensation for the victim's family, and the maintenance of status quo by the forest departments of both states until a resolution is reached.

This candlelight vigil was a joint effort by numerous organizations, including the All Tirap District Students’ Union, the Longding District Students’ Union, the Changlang District Students’ Union, the Wancho Council, the Nocte Students’ Union, the All Tutsa Students’ Union, the All Ollo Students’ Union, the Borduria Welfare Federation, the Nocte Mother’s Federation, the Chopnu Students’ Union, the Naitong Youth Association, the Nokphan Students’ Union, and the Borduria Youth Association.
