SteamUp Foods is a Mumbai-based D2C food tech startup that offers a range of āsteamableā foods such as idlis, momos, rolls, rice, and dhokla that can be prepared easily. Steaming food stores more nutrients boosts antioxidants, enhances flavor, uses less oil, and above all, is an eco-friendly technique.
Archit Agarwal launched the company in 2019 at a time when India was looking at more healthy food options. He initially raised Rs 1 lakh from friends and family, invested in the business, and began with momos.
SteamUp currently offers 20 variants in momos including classic, Jain, vegan, and wheat options. They include mushroom, paneer tikka, cheesy corn, tofu, paneer, jalapeno cheese, and pizza. It also offers sweet variants, like chocolate fudge and white chocolate.
The momos are priced between Rs 99 - Rs 180; the minimum order price is Rs 300 and orders above Rs 500 are shipped for free. The shelf-life of these products is 9 months. The products are currently available in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Nashik.Ā
Hailing from a family with a business background, Archit knew the business was in their blood. He started his entrepreneurial journey with HaFit, a healthy snack subscription-based business. He worked part-time with brands like Lokmat Media, Vivo India, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Kwaan to gain experience.
The company saw a rise in orders after the first wave of covid-19. SteamUp is available on online marketplaces such as Big Basket, Swiggy, Gourmet Store, Vegan Dukaan, and Vvegano and on offline marketplaces such as Natureās Basket, and Foodhall, Society Stores, and more.
Presently, offline channels account for 85% of the sales. The company has 12 members on the team and outsources products from different manufacturers in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune.
It recently started its first cloud kitchen in Versova, Mumbai. SteamUp plans to increase its product portfolio, and expand across 10 cities by the end of the year. They plan to expand internationally too. It clocked a revenue of Rs 1.05 crore this year.Ā
