Building Strong Foundations: The “Bricks and Mortar” of Success in Anything

I want you to imagine building a skyscraper. Before you can construct those towering heights, you first need to lay a solid foundation. The same principle applies to our journey.
Let’s translate this analogy to our internal chemistry. Our foundations in successfulness are not made of concrete, but a blend of serotonin and oxytocin. These form the bedrock of our motivation, resilience, and ability to forge relationships - all of which are pivotal in sales.
🥰 Serotonin, often referred to as the “feel-good” hormone, contributes to our overall well-being and happiness. Imagine it as the sturdy blocks that support the structure.
It’s what keeps us grounded, and is boosted by things like:
- Exercise,
- Spending time in nature,
- Maintaining good health,
- Cultivating inner calmness and wisdom.
It is this hormone that promotes focus, contentment and the mental strength needed for the challenging yet rewarding world you’re now in.
😪 A lack of serotonin is like trying to build on shaky ground. It can result in reduced motivation, difficulty in controlling emotions, susceptibility to:
- illness,
- physical discomfort,
- difficulty concentrating,
- decreased productivity,
- and even a predisposition to depression.
Just as a building without a firm base will crumble, so too will our performance in sales without these foundational blocks.
💪 (if you’re experiencing anything on this list… this is me telling you to get some serotonin flowing by doing anything on the first list… easy peasy lemon squeezy).
🤗 Oxytocin, on the other hand, is the bonding hormone. The mortar that binds the blocks, enhances our ability to connect with others, which is absolutely critical for any transformation to happen.
This hormone is fueled by:
- close relationships,
- social interactions,
- relaxing times with loved ones,
- and feelings of safety and belonging,
- even those garnered from time with our pets.
🥺 A deficiency in oxytocin can lead to feelings of:
- loneliness,
- difficulty in forming relationships,
- a sense of alienation,
- and social anxiety.
A building without proper binding will collapse.
Similarly, lacking this critical bonding hormone could lead to struggles in forging and maintaining the professional relationships necessary for success in sales (so get a dog lol or anything else from the list to improve your oxytocin levels… we’ve got this down to a scientific formula now and it puts you in the driving seat!
Once we’ve laid down this solid foundation of serotonin and oxytocin, we can then safely enjoy the rewards brought about by dopamine, the “success” hormone.
💥 Dopamine is what drives us towards achieving goals, gaining recognition, personal growth, and even adventuring. It’s the thrilling completion of that skyscraper, the breathtaking view from the top.
However, we should be mindful that dopamine can also be addictive and lead to unhealthy behaviours like smoking, drinking, or excessive internet use, when not balanced with serotonin and oxytocin.
Remember, a skyscraper isn’t built overnight. It requires careful planning, solid foundational work, and meticulous ex*****on. The same applies to your journey in here. By understanding and nurturing our internal foundations, we ensure our skyscraper stands tall, unshakeable, and gleaming with success.
