Embark on the journey of crafting whiskey

1. Malting: Barely is soaked, then dried with peat for a hint of smokiness - a signature of whiskeys character.

2. Milling and mashing: The barely becomes grist, releasing soluble sugars when mixed with warm water in a mash tun, the wort is then separated and fermented.

3. Fermentation: Yeast transforms wort into wash, a low-alcohol liquid with rich potential.

4. Distillation: Heating separates alcohol from wash, done twice for depth.

5. Maturation: Oak casks are used to mature whiskey where it absorbs flavours over years. During this process there is a 3% evaporation each year known as the Angel's share.

6. Blending: Only done by masters of the craft, blending balances flavors from varied casks. This process requires a knowledge of taste rather than science.

As you lift the glass to your nose, you may experience the aromas of brandy, a sweet, nutty scent with hints of apricot, cinnamon and caramel

The aroma should be consistent with the flavour as you take your first sip, a smooth flavour profile captivating the essence of oak.

Another amazing finish by the Mi Liquors rider Matt Armstrong. Matt’s detailer broke the day before the race and he was given a completely new and foreign bike to race with, he still managed to get a 5th place finish in the men’s elite category at his recent race in Limpopo. Matt keeps on pushing!
