Our Story

In 1815, in the heart of Russia, among Ural Mountains the weapon factory was founded by royal decree. This event was destined to become the start of one of the centers of decorated cold steel weaponry production in Russia.

The first teachers and mentors of the factory were armourers from Germany. Under Wilhelm Shaff’s command Bushuev (famous “Ivan Krylatko”) and Ivan Boyarshinov began to learn nuts and bolds of the industry and later went down to history, as the most prominent artist-engravers in Russia.

Eventually they created their own unique style of engraving. This new style had a considerable difference in terms of both the art of engraving and technology of gilding that allowed to achieve more solid and reliable connection of gold with steel. “Live” battle pieces and painting of rich Russian nature had come to take traditional allegoric symbolic theme’s place. Now it’s not subtle and fine lines but large paintings (landscapes); not a simplicity but splendid gilding and intricate loftily ornamental pattern in which separate fragments of weapons and emblems are seem to evanescence.

Besides Ural's artists developed a completely new technique of drawing: instead of etching needle here comes deep etching with brash drawing. At different time such genuine masters as Bushuev and others created their master pieces.
