Wine Wisdom Wednesday: Pinot Noir

Q: Why are Pinot Noir so expensive?

A: Pinot Noir is one of the hardest grapes to grow in the wine world. A combination of factors makes this grape a farmer’s headache during the growing season. Pinot Noir has one of the thinnest skin in the vineyard, tight clusters and ripens late.

The thin skin makes it easily damaged temperature fluctuations, which can ruin the grapes before they are ripened and because of the tight clusters can cause disease.

Also, the Pinot Noir grape grows best in cold climates which does not always get as much sun. Therefore, they stay on the vine longer.

Full transparency, I drank one glass of wine 🍷 that is not Scout & Cellar, it’s been 5 minutes and I’m already experiencing a hot flash. 😅 To the men on this page, I apologize, but hot flashes are real, they happen.

I can’t tell you that you won’t get side effects from drinking out wine, but I can tell you that they don’t happen to me personally when I drink an S&C 🍷.

These grapes were grown in two vineyards in the southern end of the renowned Napa Valley, where the growing season is the longest, allowing fruit to ripen at a leisurely pace for optimal, balanced ripeness. For this Cabernet Sauvignon, grapes were hand-picked from young vines then fermented in stainless steel for over 3 weeks on native yeast. The wine then aged in neutral French Oak for over 6 months before bottling, unfined and unfiltered.
