Believe it or not all of these Desert MARPAT petals were cut from the same field uniform blouse! Some areas clearly took the brunt of the wear and tear while others were hidden behind a pocket or double layer. This uniform spent 5 years with an infantry Marine including deployment to a dangerous sandy place. It was gifted to Moto Blossoms after being deemed unservicable.

The dirt and stains that remain after many washings tell a story of hard work, dedication to country and service with the Marine Corps. This MARPAT will evolve into Yellow Footprint Blossoms, celebrating the transitional moment poolees arrive at Recruit Training. My hope is that each recipient will appreciate them as symbols of the journey all our beloved Marines take. 🇺🇸🌺

Moto Blossoms was given the honor of creating custom blossoms for several of the Gold Star MoMs of these brave heroes. Using fabric from my son's retired Dress Blues uniform for the first time brought the significance of supporting these mothers very close to home. We will certainly never forget the sacrifice of these families. May God Bless them as they search for peace.

“The Stars Shine Down”

In memory of the 13 Fallen Heroes in Afghanistan 🇺🇸

You rest your head upon the velvet night sky,
Your soft light, not extinguished, winks down upon us.

Taken too soon from this plane, your valor settled upon the mantles of those left behind,
Your name etched in stone, your imprint inscribed upon our hearts.

Your spirit billows and gives life to “Old Glory’s” wave,
You ride the notes of “Taps,” as deep speaks to deep.

You are the hand over our hearts in reverence,
You still the silence and infuse strength as we stand.

Your star shines down and lights the way for your brethren,
Not forgotten, honored in humility, and your legacy lives on.

We Remember❤️🇺🇸

This Monday my Delta Company MoM will receive the final blossom in her Moto Monday Bouquet, the Dress Blues. Training week 12 has everyone excited about upcoming Family Day and Graduation, after which these tired Marines get to go home for some deep sleep in the safety of their loving families, lots of their favorite foods and 10 days of well earned R&R. Wishing Delta families safe travel to and from the Island and my congratulations for getting through the grueling weeks known as bootcamp. Enjoy the view from the top of that USMC roller-coaster, and best wishes to the Marines of Delta Company! 🇺🇸🎉

This week Delta Company celebrates having completed the Crucible and enjoys a more equal status with the other Marines on the Island as they finish final requirements and practice for graduation. The Marine Week Blossom is made from a retired Woodland MARPAT (Marine Pattern) camoflague, like the uniform new Marines will wear on Family Day to greet their loved ones.

It's Graduation Week for Charlie Company! Congratulations to each Marine and their proud families! The Dress Blues Blossom is the final stem in every Moto Monday Bouquet. Rather than cut up retired Dress Blues jackets for this blossom, I hand-stitch red piping onto indigo quilting cotton and add a EGA button like the ones found on each side of the white barracks cover our Marines wear with their Dress Blues.

Delta Company faces their final field test: 54 hours of challenges known as The Crucible. Upon completion these recruits will be awarded their EGA and the title "United States Marine" something that can never be taken from them. Wishing Delta Co all the best as they show their DIs what they're made of. 🇺🇸

Just think, Thursday morning while Delta Company begins the Crucible in the swampy forests of Parris Island to earn their EGAs, Delta Company's families and loved ones will gather beneath the "We Make Marines" sign in the pre-dawn hours to cheer for the young patriots that left home 12 weeks ago to earn the Title. It's no small thing they do. May God Bless them all. 🇺🇸❤️🙏

This week Charlie Company celebrates having completed the Crucible and earned their EGAs. Marine Week allows them more equal status to the other Marines on the island as they do final inspections and tie up loose ends in preparation for Graduation. The Marine Week Blossom is made from a retired woodland MARPAT blouse, like the ones these new Marines will wear next week at Family Day when they reunite with their loved ones.

Delta Company spends another week in the field doing Basic Warrior Training. The vintage M81 (BDUs) camoflague used for the BWT Blossom honors the tradition of combat training in the Marine Corps. The compass in the center nods to the land navigation skills recruits must master during this 9th week of training.

These final weeks lead up to one of the high points of the USMC emotional roller-coaster. Enjoy the ride! 🇺🇸

This is kind of a big week for my Charlie and Delta recruit moms: Charlie Co has their final field test this week and Delta hits phase three! The momentum is palpable!! These Moto Monday Bouquet recipients will receive blossoms for week 10 and week 8.

The Crucible blossom is made from a retired Desert MARPAT uniform similar to what Charlie Co recruits will wear during the 54 hour final test of their skills. At the end of those grueling hours they will receive their EGAs, having earned the title of United States Marines.

Delta Co will change their platoon guidon from red on yellow to yellow on red, signifying their progress to the Third Phase of training. The building up process continues as they work towards their own Crucible two weeks away.

Each Moto Blossom arrives with continued motivation for these recruit families as they look forward to the final weeks of bootcamp and that unforgettable first hug on Family Day. 💪🇺🇸🌺

As we move through the weeks of Recruit Training with Charlie and Delta Companies my Moto Monday Bouquet moms are receiving the blossoms pictured below this week.
Charlie Company will spend much of week 9 doing Basic Warrior Training. Made from vintage M81 camoflague to honor the tradition of combat training in the Corps the BWT Blossom has a compass center to signify the land navigation skills the recruits must master this week.
Delta Company, during their second week on the range finally get to fire the rifles they've carried nearly everywhere for 7 weeks as they test their marksmanship in Table 1. The Firing Week Blossom features a spent round of the same caliber as the .556 rounds all recruits and Marines use in the field.

Both companies are past the halfway point in bootcamp and are well into the "building back up" phase while their families solidify plans to visit Parris Island for Family Day and Graduation in a few short weeks. Keep the motivation flowing everyone! 💪🇺🇸❤️

Have you been following the 2 Moto Monday Bouquets going to Charlie and Delta families this cycle? Charlie Company hits third Phase this week and yellow on red guidons replace the red on yellow they've been carrying since phase one. Meanwhile Delta Company starts three weeks on the range with Grass Week. They will practice firing positions for hours with only "dry fire" until each position is second nature. The crossed rifles button on the Grass Week Blossom has always been one of my favorite finds.
Have a wonderful week!

Monday motivation for my Delta and Charlie Moms:
Charlie Company greets training week 7 back out on the range where they will finally get to fire the rifles they've carried nearly everywhere for 6 weeks
Delta Co platoons pause from full time training and break into smaller fire teams to tackle miscellaneous jobs including interior guard duty during training week 5.

Wishing everyone a great week!

Another week, another Moto Monday delivery for my Charlie and Delta recruit moms as their bouquets grow and their sons transform! 🇺🇸🌺😊

Charlie Co will start to really feel the mantra of "every Marine a rifleman" this week while they spend hours snapping into firing positions during Grass Week.

Delta Co gets reminded that the Marine Corps is an amphibious force while testing their water survival silks during Swim Week.

The Moto Blossom Story

When my son was on MCRD Parris Island in 2017 training to earn the title of US Marine, I delivered a small vase of flowers to his girlfriend every Monday for each of the 12 weeks they were apart (yes, it was just 12 weeks then). The flowers celebrated the passage of another week as we both continued to write motivational letters to our recruit, awaiting news from bootcamp that all was well.

In 2018, when a friend's son shipped out for his turn at Marine Recruit Training, I decided to make fabric flowers to mark each week for her, celebrating her son's accomplishments and helping to keep her inspired through the long weeks. Like the previous year, I delivered the blossoms on Mondays, which we quickly named “Moto Mondays”, borrowing the term “Moto” from the Marine Corps, an abbreviation for the “motivation” Marines must internalize to push through their many challenges in training and during their service.

These first fabric flowers represented various stages of the training process, from the official colors of his recruit battalion to ‘Swim Week’, ‘Rifle Week’, Basic Warrior Training and the colors of the platoon guidons that recruits follow everywhere on Parris Island. The blossom representing the final 54 hour challenge known as the Crucible was made from a retired USMC fatigue blouse and button, exactly like the uniform the recruits wear during this infamous final bootcamp test. The last blossom featured red piping and a brass button like those adorning the Dress Blues uniform that is so iconic to the Marine Corps. Upon completion of the 13 week training period, this Mom had a remembrance bouquet of the emotional journey that followed her son’s great accomplishment.

Fueled with positive reviews from other Marine families, I now offer 13-flower Bootcamp Bouquets to new cycles of Marine Recruit families and loved ones who could use some encouragement as they support their future Marine. With the blessings of time and patience, my original bootcamp product line will grow to include a garden of colorful Moto Blossoms intended to celebrate and inspire other meaningful moments.
