Meet Roberto Voerzio! Few winemakers in Piedmont are as legendary as him. A true pioneer of modernist Barolo, his pursuit of perfection has made his wines world-renowned. Starting with just five hectares in La Morra in the 1980s, Voerzio now crafts limited production wines from some of Barolo’s most coveted vineyards. With ultra-high-density planting and a strict selection process, only the finest fruit makes it into the bottle. Committed to organic farming, each grape is hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts before aging it in a mix of oak barrels, tonneaux, and “botti”, then bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfur. The result ? Elegant, powerful and uncompromising Barolos that stand amongst the best in the world!

At Halpern, we have two offerings of available - First, the 2021 Barbera d’Alba Il Cerreto - a vibrant, charming and fresh pour of pure fruit expression that’s food-friendly and delightful for every day enjoyment. Alba terroir yields wine that brilliant showcase Barbera’s youthful energy and versatility.

The second, 2021 Barbera d’Asti Superiore. Grown at a higher altitude and in distinctive soil, the wine features layers of dried herbs, sophisticated structure and bright acidity. The exceptional terroir allowed these wines to evolve into remarkable complex wine with age, revealing nuances over time. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and 12 months aging in used barriques (70%), followed by a short steel rest before bottling, unfiltered. The result is an exceptional Barbera, with aromas of ripe red fruit, spice, and vanilla, and a palate that’s vibrant, well-structured, and concentrated. A few years in bottle will bring even greater depth, showcasing Roberto’s passion and meticulous craftsmanship.

Each of these wines represent the unique character of its terroir, showcasing Piedmonts’s winemaking excellence.

Spain’s winemaking legacy is as rich as its landscapes, dating back over 3,000 years - some even think before the Phoenicians brought their knowledge of viticulture and winemaking to the Southern Iberian Peninsula. Today, Spain reigns as the world’s largest vineyard powerhouse, covering 13% of global vineyards. This vast terrain, shaped by diverse soils and climates, makes it a stellar location for grape cultivation. One region, Castilla-La Mancha, leads the charge with the largest vineyard area, while other areas like Priorat, La Rioja, Abadia Retuerta (a newly appointed PDO) and Ribera del Duero are renowned for their exceptional wines. Here at Halpern, we’re proud to represent some of the best producing houses in Spain, including Viña Olabarri (Rioja), Clos Salanca (Priorat), Vega Sicilia (Ribera del Duero) and Abadia Retuerta (Abadia Retuerta).

With around 600 native grape varieties, Spain offers an incredible spectrum of flavours. Albariño, a refreshing coastal white from the Rías Baixas region and Verdejo steal the spotlight for their quality. Verdejo, an herbaceous white, is showcased in Abadia Retuerta’s Le Domaine, a balanced and fresh pour. Garnacha, which is a versatile varietal, is rich and flavourful and widely used for both red, like Abadía Retuerta’s Cuvée El Palomar (red), or white, such as Clos Salanca’s Cap Blanc. While Cencibel - better known as Tempranillo - delivers a bold, full-bodied glass. Vega Sicilia’s flagship, Unico, or Viña Olabarri’s Reserva are exceptional examples.

Whether you enjoy classic styles or are looking to discover new favorites, we have the Spanish wines to take you on a journey.

Beaux Frères Winery

We’re excited to introduce one of Oregon’s most critically acclaimed wineries: Beaux Frères! Renowned for producing exceptional Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, Beaux Frères is co-owned by none other than legendary wine critic Robert Parker.

Founded in 1988 as a collaboration between Michael Etzel, his brother-in-law Robert Parker, and Robert Roy, Beaux Frères has a story as unique as its wines. The winery was born on an old pig farm, with Michael’s biodynamic farming methods and a dedication to minimal intervention, all contributing to the purest expression of their land.

The result? Some of the finest Pinot Noirs in Oregon, which have consistently earned their place among the top wines in the region.

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming availability of these incredible wines—you won’t want to miss out!

An Evening With Marchesi Antinori at Paese

What an unforgettable night! We were thrilled to host an exclusive culinary celebration featuring the iconic wines of Marchesi Antinori, expertly paired with a four-course dinner at Paese Restaurant.

We kicked things off with a Tignanello Vertical Tasting, showcasing seven incredible vintages from 2007 to 2015, guided by Alessandro Leone, Marchesi Antinori’s Export Manager. What a journey through the evolution of this legendary Super Tuscan!

The menu was a masterpiece in itself. From the fresh, citrusy Branzino Crudo paired with Castello della Sala’s 2020 Cervaro della Sala, to the rich, earthy Cavatelli Funghi alongside Pian delle Vigne’s 2017 Brunello di Montalcino, and the tender Rib Eye Steak matched with Tenuta Tignanello’s 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva. Every bite was an experience.

We ended the evening on a sweet note with a decadent Capri Chocolate Torta paired with a perfect wine for dessert.

Thank you Tony and team for the hospitality and to everyone who joined us for this unforgettable evening! If you missed it, keep an eye out for future events—we can’t wait to do it again.

Big Head Big Red #11

From the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Big Head Big Red #11 is a remarkable red blend that combines the unique methods of appassimento with fresh grapes across three vintages. The blend features the 2021 Malbec, 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2024 Malbec, and 2024 Dornfelder, all of which were dried using the appassimento technique. This process enhances the depth and concentration of the wine. Meanwhile, the 2023 and 2024 Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and remaining Malbec were fermented fresh, bringing vibrancy and structure to the blend. The wine underwent ambient and carbonic fermentation, followed by aging in 2000L and 4000L French oak vats, as well as 225L barriques. The aging process varied: the 2021 vintage aged for over three years, the 2023 for 14 months, and the 2024 for three months.

Big Head Big Red #11 is the most generous red yet, offering a complex profile of black raspberry, black cherry, blackberry, cassis, graphite, vanilla, sweet to***co, and licorice. The dominant black fruit notes reflect the Malbec influence, while the wine’s round, supple tannins lead to a ripe and smooth finish without any residual sugar. The palate is layered and harmonious, balancing concentrated flavors with vibrant structure, making it an exceptional wine to enjoy on its own or paired with food. It complements a range of dishes, including pork, red meats, tomato-based recipes, and pizza.

Priced at $25 per bottle, Big Head Big Red #11 is available by the case (12 bottles).

A treasured morning with Jeremy and Diana at Domaine Dujac, one of Burgundy’s most revered estates.

Founded in 1967, Domaine Dujac transformed from a modest 5-hectare estate in Morey-St-Denis into one of Burgundy’s most prestigious houses. The domaine’s 17 hectares include seven Grand Cru plots and exceptional Premier Crus like Gevrey’s Aux Combottes and Vosne’s Les Malconsorts.

Committed to sustainability, Domaine Dujac earned organic certification in 2011 after transitioning from lutte raisonnée to biodynamic practices. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, featuring signature whole-bunch fermentation and gravity-flow processes. The resulting wines are celebrated for their finesse, elegant aromatics, and profound depth rather than raw power.
