Bonjour le Printemps!🌼

Cellier des Dames 2022 Bourgogne J. F***e Blanc

This captivating Chardonnay harmoniously blends fruit from three distinct Burgundian terroirs: the limestone-rich CĂ´te Chalonnaise north of Montagny, the historic vineyards south of CĂ´te de Beaune, and the cool, mineral-driven Chablis region.

Named for Joanna I of Castile, Duchess of Burgundy—whose passionate nature history often misconstrued as madness—this wine embodies both power and elegance. On the nose, delicate white blossoms intertwine with sophisticated toasted brioche notes. The thoughtful oak integration provides structure without overwhelming, creating a perfect frame for the wine’s natural richness. The palate reveals layers of ripe orchard fruits balanced by a crystalline mineral backbone and vibrant acidity that cuts through the sumptuous texture.

Designed to complement fine cuisine, this wine’s compelling interplay of richness and refreshing acidity ensures a memorable dining experience that evolves beautifully throughout the meal.

: A Legacy Rooted in Barbaresco

Since 1796, the Pasquero-Elia family has cultivated a deep bond with the land, crafting wines that stand the test of time. From the first Barbaresco Sori Paitin (1893) to today, eight generations have preserved tradition while evolving with organic and biodynamic farming. In the cellar, long macerations & aging in neutral Stockinger botti bring out purity and elegance. A true reflection of heritage, resilience, and terroir, Paitin wines are now available in very limited quantities.

Here at Halpern, we are pleased to offer very small quantities of the wines that have just arrived in the province.

Paitin 2020 Faset Barbaresco - 94 Points | Wine Advocate & James Suckling

Crafted from organic Nebbiolo vines planted between 1975-1990, the 2020 Barbaresco Faset is a powerful yet beautifully balanced expression of this renowned terroir. This vintage captures warmth, offering a richer, darker profile while maintaining its signature elegance. Expect vibrant notes of black cherry, earth, rust, and licorice, with a softer character that enhances its fruit-forward appeal. A stunning example of Barbaresco’s ability to balance intensity with finesse.

Paitin 2022 Serra Barbera d’Alba - 92 Points | Wine Advocate 🍷

Crafted from organic Barbera vines planted in 1980, this wine delivers a powerful yet fresh expression of the varietal. Deep, rich flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and violet intertwine with notes of plum, graphite, and black pepper, all lifted by vivid acidity. Concentrated and focused, it carries through to a long, lingering finish—bold, structured, and utterly captivating.

CODE WORD: BLACK CHICKEN 🐓

The story begins in the 1940s when a young Aldo Biale and his family were trying to make ends meet. Alongside eggs and produce, they began selling their homemade Zinfandel to those in the know within Napa. To maintain secrecy, they used a coded phrase on the old party line phone system: “a Black Chicken” to signify a jug of their bootleg wine. This clever code kept their underground Zinfandel operation hidden from prying ears.

Today, the Black Chicken Zinfandel from is an iconic representation of Napa Valley’s finest. Crafted with meticulous care by Bob Biale and winemaker David Natali, this wine embodies the essence of its terroir. From hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting to open-top fermentation and gentle punch downs, each step in the winemaking process is thoughtfully executed. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, the 2021 vintage showcases the unique influence of the Oak Knoll District.

The winemaker’s tasting notes reveal a symphony of aromas and flavors: rich, plush fruit, delicate acidity, and well-ripened tannins. Notes of black cherry, raspberry, sandalwood, bergamot, cloves, blueberry, and balsam dance on the nose, while the palate delights with plum compote, violets, and baking spice. This exceptional vintage promises to age gracefully for the next 5-7 years with proper cellaring.

- a fairytale of sustainability and sensational wines 🍷

Domaine La Cendrillon’s winemaking legacy is a remarkable story of resilience and innovation, spanning centuries. The Joyeux family has adapted and thrived, maintaining a true commitment to their heritage and wines. Today, Hubert Joyeux carries on this tradition, leading the estate with the same passion for crafting exceptional wines that has defined his family for generations.

Once an 18th-century inn, Domaine La Cendrillon lies in northeastern Corbières, between the Fontfroide massif and Aude plain. Its diverse soils—from silty riverbanks to limestone hills and schist-rich terrain—create the perfect foundation for complex blends. Their vines span across five terroirs and three climates, each wine captures the depth, character, and rugged beauty of the area.

In the early 2000s, Robert Joyeux transitioned the estate to organic farming, guided by the belief that great wine begins with a healthy ecosystem. Herbicides were replaced with natural soil care practices, like using crushed pruning wood to enrich the soil. Green fertilizers are used to support microbial life, and existing terraces and hedges are preserved to maintain biodiversity.

Hubert & Robert Joyeux, along with oenologist Claude Gros, are dedicated to crafting wines that are meant to be aged to perfection before release, ensuring that you experience them at their peak. Each plot is vinified separately, with blending occurring only after the wines have fully developed. Grapes are meticulously hand-picked and sorted, and vinification is carried out using indigenous yeasts whenever possible. Sulfites are only added when absolutely necessary, and aging takes place in concrete vats, large tuns, or Burgundy barrels to preserve the unique character of each grape varietal. This approach honors the Corbières region’s deep-rooted tradition of cuvée-style winemaking.

Champagne isn’t just a wine—it’s a place, a history, and a centuries-old tradition. Produced exclusively in the legendary Champagne region, just 90 miles from Paris, this iconic sparkling wine can only come from one place on earth.

Spanning 34,300 hectares and 319 villages, Champagne’s vineyards are a true labor of love, shaped by 16,000+ growers. The region’s four sub-regions—Montagne de Reims, Marne Valley, Côte des Blancs, and Côte des Bar—each contribute their own personality to every bottle. The vines thrive in a mosaic of soils, carefully matched to the best grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay.

After primary fermentation in stainless steel or oak, winemakers blend different grapes, vineyards, and vintages in assemblage to create a signature style. Take Barons de Rothschild’s Brut Concordia—a cuvée of 60% Chardonnay from Côte des Blancs and 40% Pinot Noir, sourced from Grand Cru villages like Verzenay and Avize

The magic happens during second fermentation, where sugar and yeast create Champagne’s signature bubbles. Aged for at least 15 months (or three years for vintage), the wine develops depth before riddling, disgorgement, and a final dosage determines its sweetness—from bone-dry Brut Nature to lusciously sweet Doux.

No two Champagnes are alike. The same grape, grown in different villages, transforms with the soil, the sun, and even the forests nearby.

Here at Halpern, we are proud to represent some of the most prestigious houses of Champagne, including

So next time you sip a glass, remember—you’re tasting a place, a history, and a craft that is unmistakably Champagne.

Meet Roberto Voerzio! Few winemakers in Piedmont are as legendary as him. A true pioneer of modernist Barolo, his pursuit of perfection has made his wines world-renowned. Starting with just five hectares in La Morra in the 1980s, Voerzio now crafts limited production wines from some of Barolo’s most coveted vineyards. With ultra-high-density planting and a strict selection process, only the finest fruit makes it into the bottle. Committed to organic farming, each grape is hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts before aging it in a mix of oak barrels, tonneaux, and “botti”, then bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfur. The result ? Elegant, powerful and uncompromising Barolos that stand amongst the best in the world!

At Halpern, we have two offerings of available - First, the 2021 Barbera d’Alba Il Cerreto - a vibrant, charming and fresh pour of pure fruit expression that’s food-friendly and delightful for every day enjoyment. Alba terroir yields wine that brilliant showcase Barbera’s youthful energy and versatility.

The second, 2021 Barbera d’Asti Superiore. Grown at a higher altitude and in distinctive soil, the wine features layers of dried herbs, sophisticated structure and bright acidity. The exceptional terroir allowed these wines to evolve into remarkable complex wine with age, revealing nuances over time. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and 12 months aging in used barriques (70%), followed by a short steel rest before bottling, unfiltered. The result is an exceptional Barbera, with aromas of ripe red fruit, spice, and vanilla, and a palate that’s vibrant, well-structured, and concentrated. A few years in bottle will bring even greater depth, showcasing Roberto’s passion and meticulous craftsmanship.

Spain’s winemaking legacy is as rich as its landscapes, dating back over 3,000 years - some even think before the Phoenicians brought their knowledge of viticulture and winemaking to the Southern Iberian Peninsula. Today, Spain reigns as the world’s largest vineyard powerhouse, covering 13% of global vineyards. This vast terrain, shaped by diverse soils and climates, makes it a stellar location for grape cultivation. One region, Castilla-La Mancha, leads the charge with the largest vineyard area, while other areas like Priorat, La Rioja, Abadia Retuerta (a newly appointed PDO) and Ribera del Duero are renowned for their exceptional wines. Here at Halpern, we’re proud to represent some of the best producing houses in Spain, including Viña Olabarri (Rioja), Clos Salanca (Priorat), Vega Sicilia (Ribera del Duero) and Abadia Retuerta (Abadia Retuerta).

With around 600 native grape varieties, Spain offers an incredible spectrum of flavours. Albariño, a refreshing coastal white from the Rías Baixas region and Verdejo steal the spotlight for their quality. Verdejo, an herbaceous white, is showcased in Abadia Retuerta’s Le Domaine, a balanced and fresh pour. Garnacha, which is a versatile varietal, is rich and flavourful and widely used for both red, like Abadía Retuerta’s Cuvée El Palomar (red), or white, such as Clos Salanca’s Cap Blanc. While Cencibel - better known as Tempranillo - delivers a bold, full-bodied glass. Vega Sicilia’s flagship, Unico, or Viña Olabarri’s Reserva are exceptional examples.

Whether you enjoy classic styles or are looking to discover new favorites, we have the Spanish wines to take you on a journey.
