We were asked to go silent because of the hearing yesterday where Wrightway Market was trying to appeal their privileged license to sell alcohol, but why was beer and wine being mentioned. This is a 2nd license denied by the City of Reno Government administrator in July 2023 to sell just beer and wine.
It would seem the city took away Wrightway's alcohol license in January 2023 and now are denying beer and wine. Is the City of Reno Council trying to put Wrightway out of business?
The landlord, Dr. John Iliescu, passed away a couple of days ago, will Wrightway be able to keep their lease or will the building be sold? Perhaps the use of the building will change but that would be a shame because Wrightway Market is in a food desert as was pointed out by Councilmember Meghan Ebert Ward 4 City of Reno and that causes one to wonder where could the people shopping at Wrightway find food if the market is no longer available, perhaps Kathleen Taylor for Reno could step up and answer that questions now that she is the councilmember for downtown Reno.
It was also interesting, at the city council meeting yesterday, PKWY Tavern, owned by Jonathan Fine from Las Vegas was granted his slot parlor and bar licensing from the City of Reno and this location inside the old Harrah's Casino is but a mere three blocks from Wrightway Market, and Councilmember Taylor is in full support.
Why has the City of Reno has decided to make an example out of Wrightway Market? That seems to be the question.
The Reno City Council on Wednesday upheld the alcohol sales ban at downtown's Wrightway Market.
