Loch Lomond KWM Cask Launch Virtual

At the start of the 21st-century single malt boom, most whisky aficionados, myself (Andrew) included, looked down our noses at Loch Lomond. At the time the distillery was primarily focused on entry-level blended whisky. The distillery, founded in 1966, was set up to produce both malt and grain whisky, a self-sufficient blender. Tweaks and changes in the decade that followed meant that Loch Lomond could produce 11 unique distillates on-site. It was only after the focus started to shift toward single malts in the 2010s that whisky experts and enthusiasts truly began to appreciate Loch Lomond’s potential. To mark the launch of our 2nd KWM exclusive Loch Lomond Cask, we are putting on a Loch Lomond vertical tasting to explore this fascinating and very unusual distillery!

Producer notes
AROMAS: Baking spice, black tea, and honeysuckle
FLAVORS: Bold notes of orange, clove and dried fruit.
MASH BILL: 60% corn, 20% heirloom wheat, 10% heirloom rye, 10% heirloom malted barley.
AGED: 3+ years in new, 53-gallon oak barrels and bottled at cask strength.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Alberta is a burgeoning center of the Canadian craft whisky industry, we produce some of the best barley, wheat, and rye in the world. In honour of Canada Day, we’re putting on our first-ever Canadian Craft Whisky Festival! The event will only be showcasing whiskies made by small Canadian producers with a heavy focus on Alberta producers, but we will also feature some other notable craft whiskies from across the country.

For the first time ever, Ardbeg Spectacular. has been matured in rare port wine casks. Years in ex-bourbon and port wine casks have imparted a mesmerising array of bizarre notes. Fragrant lavender, vetiver and incense candles tumble into rich almond nuttiness.

Deeper notes such as damp peat and woodsmoke introduce a daring double act of creosote and tar, before leather and minty chocolate leap across to sweet pear crumble and salted caramel fudge.

This Dr Sponge adventure is a true classic, restored and bottled in its original form, it features the trusty sonic valinch that can sample any cask in the universe, some of the cheapest labelling effects on the indy bottling market and the flavour sensation of drinking Tom Baker’s scarf wrapped up in Jon Pertwee’s smoking jacket and distilled through Patrick Troughton’s recorder.”

G&M CC Glentauchers 2000 KWM Cask

Is it a coincidence we bottled two Gordon & MacPhail Glentauchers casks in a year? Yes, but it shouldn't be all that surprising... seeing as they are bottling some of the best whisky from the distillery. This 2000 vintage was matured 23 years in a First Fill Sherry Hogshead. We were blown away by this old-school dumpy, sherried single malt... it's a very cool dram! 55.8%.

Tomatin Single Malts
Tomatin means “Tom”- hill “Atin”-juniper The Hill of the Juniper. Sadly, today no juniper grows on these hills anymore due to the fact that when these particular bushes are burned they don’t give off smoke. This was just what illegal producers needed to heat the stills and stay hidden from those dirty exciseman. Still history is in the name and should not be changed.

What was the inspiration behind you staring up an independent whisky bottling company– did you have a particular light bulb moment?

The light bulb moment came when I was stravaiging through my early 40s, completely unsure what I was going to do. And then I came upon an opportunity to purchase some stunning whisky that was well above my means. It was one of those moments I knew If I didn’t take the plunge and purchase that first parcel of whisky, I would have always wondered, “what if?”.

NULU Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled exclusively for Alberta. The back label on this NULU Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey states that it is a 'very small batch of 4 to 6 year MGP Bourbon'. MGP Distillery of Indiana provides many companies with Rye and Bourbon Whisky, including PCS. Mash bill: 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley and is bottled at 47.7% ABV.

I wish I had sexy music to play for this birthday line up. We sampled whiskies almost as old as our fearless leader. 😜

All the bottles sampled in tonight line up are either 30 yrs old or distilled in 1992. Much like our very own little local wine shop which just turned 30 yrs old this month.

We have a lot of new KWM single casks coming and we know you will love them as much as we did when we choose them.

Two Brewers Yukon Single Malt KWM Cask

Our first ever exclusive single cask bottling from Two Brewers was split with the Alberta Scotch Society. Distilled October 13, 2013, from a mash of peated malt, the whisky was matured 7 years in ex-Bourbon before bottling on January 14, 2021, at 58%. The malt was peated somewhere between 25 & 50PPM...
