🍷 BRUNELLO 2020: OUR SASSETTI ALLOCATION 🍷

2020 was a great vintage for Sassetti: it was a warm vintage and their higher-altitude location was a huge benefit in these conditions; one to enjoy whilst the 2019s mature.

For fans of a riper style, don’t miss Mulino from their lower-altitude plots—bigger, richer, and perfect for those who love intensity.

As for the Riserva: you may remember they skipped the 2018 vintage. This, surely the most sought-after cuvée in their portfolio, makes a beautiful return with the 2019 vintage: a top ranking in JamesSuckling.com’s tasting of 105 Riservas just a week ago.

The 2019 vintage overall was a pretty classical and reserved one — similarities to 2016 — so we have been really excited for the Riserva release 🤩

Charles Taylor Wines Burgundy 2023 En Primeur Tasting 🍷🍇

We had the pleasure of tasting a range of wines from the Burgundy 2023 vintage at London!

Due to the complex nature of Burgundy, with such a diverse patchwork of vineyards, not to mention differences in winemaking approach, making generalisations about an entire vintage is always difficult. That being said, there is always a stylistic thread running through the wines of every vintage, and the 2023s are no different.

The wines standout for their impressive concentration of fruit and in most cases should drink earlier than the 2022s and have a very charming, early approachability. There is typicity too, with great terroir expression that will delight die-hard fans of this region. In general, the reds are vibrant and have the feel of a warm vintage, without being too powerful or alcoholic. Red fruited flavours dominate and in most examples we have tasted, there is also excellent balance. There’s a lot to enjoy with the whites too, which strike a good balance between richness of fruit and freshness, and very few wines show the more tropical end of the fruit spectrum.

A great tasting last week hosted by restaurantbuibui for producer Weingut Dorli Muhr. Every bottle told a story of tradition, precision, and the unique Austrian terroir. Really interesting to hear the journey of the wines and a real surprise was the lack of rain in the region which surely contrinutes to a bit of the magic! The wines were super elegant and with great balance, acidity and structure. Delicious now but at their prime with about 10 years of age these are wines you should be trying!

We buy direct from this amazing producer and we know how much you love their wines!
