LINDIWE SISULU: ANC STEP-ASIDE RULE NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED

Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu said the step aside rule in the African National Congress (ANC) should be reviewed, as its current application is problematic.

ANC members facing criminal charges are required to step aside from the party's activities and should not stand to be elected for any positions.

Sisulu said although the rule was set to "clean" the party, the current system does not take into consideration the amount of time it takes for some cases to be concluded.

Sisulu said its time the party reassessed the rule

“Some cases take up to five to six years. We cannot deny somebody’s right to stand or be part of the ANC. I think we need to revisit that and indicate at what point would we be asking someone to step aside.”

More ANC KZN branches qualify for 55th elective conference

Out of 900 eligible ANC branches the province had 749 and 129 were disqualified, while 621 passed the audit and were now ready to go to the conference.

The 146 remaining branches would all organise this weekend, with those who were disqualified.

The World Bank has approved South Africa’s request for funding to repurpose Eskom’s recently decommissioned coal-fired Komati power station in Mpumalanga by using renewables.

The bulk of the $497 million (R9 billion) Komati Just Energy Transition Project will be financed through a $439.5 million (R8 billion) World Bank loan. There is also a $47.5 million (R870 million) concessional loan from the Canadian-World Bank Clean Energy and Forest Climate Facility, and a $10 million (R183 million) grant from the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Programme.

CAPE TOWN SET FOR WATER OUTAGES THIS WEEKEND AS COCT DOES REPAIRS

The City of Cape Town says there will be water outages this weekend from Saturday midnight until Sunday 4pm due to routine maintenance in a number of areas in the city.

The city says this includes the following areas:

Pelican Park, Eagle Park, New Horizon, Peacock Close, Pelican Heights, Strandfontein, San Remo, Bay View, Phumlani, Zeekoevlei, Grassy Park, Lotus River, Schaapkraal, Ottery, Wetton, Knole Park, Retreat, Heathfield, Steenberg, Elfindale, Marina Da Gama, Lavender Hill, Seawinds, Vrygrond, Parkwood Estate, Fairways, Southfield, Plumstead, Wynberg, Muizenberg, Lakeside and Diep River.
