We hear that red wine is good for your health! But why?

Due to the antioxidants found in red wine, there is a correlation between lower incidences of cardiovascular disease, lower mortality, and lower type-2 diabetes. These antioxidants come from a condensed tannin called procyanidins which is also found in green tea and dark chocolate.

Not all red wines are created equal, though. The red wines with higher levels of these condensed tannins are thought to provide the health benefits if consumed in moderation, that we mentioned above. Wines like Cabernet Sauvignon have more condensed tannins than Pinot Noirs, but the big players in the condensed tannins game are typically from the Bordeaux region. Wines like Nebbiolo, Tannat, Syrah, Petit Sirah, Sangiovese, Monstrell Sagrantino, and even some Cabernet Sauvignon wines (especially from Bordeaux and Napa).

And here is a true shocker for many of you with cellars...the younger the wine, the more tannins they have! So, while it may taste better aged a few years, you are more likely to reap the benefits of the condensed tannins if you consume the wine when it is younger.

The McBride Sisters are 2 incredible women, to say the least. We love their story, but even more so, we love the innovative approach they bring to their wines.

"Rooted in tradition, remixed for everyday life. For far too long, the "rules" have overshadowed the experience when it comes to wine. With the McBride Sisters Collection of wines, modern epicureans finally have a home that matches the fearless way they want to live their lives."

Robin and Andrea McBride grew up separated by the Pacific Ocean, each living in one of the world's most iconic wine-growing regions: California and New Zealand. They found out about each other and were able to meet only after their father passed away.

They quickly discovered their shared passion for wine and winemaking. They believe a bond can form over a glass of wine and they want to share that with as many wine drinkers as possible. Now they mix their passions with their roots and upbringings to bring us some of the most iconic and motivational wine collections of the 21st century. And to add yet another impressive piece to their story, they committed to keeping every bottle priced as accessibly and inclusively as possible - so naturally, we then secured an even better deal for you! We adore Aslina Wines and Ntsiki Biyela's creations every year!

In 2016, she established Aslina Wines, inspired by the strength and determination of the biggest influence in her life, her grandmother. Today Aslina is renowned for its range of premium wines and is the realization of Ntsiki’s dream to create an exceptional world-class brand.

Ntsiki grew up in Mahlabathini, a rural village in KwaZulu-Natal, and matriculated from high school in 1996. Having spent a year as a domestic worker, she was awarded a scholarship to study winemaking at Stellenbosch University in 1999. She graduated in 2003 with a BSc in Agriculture (Viticulture and Oenology) and joined boutique winery Stellekaya as their winemaker the following year. Ntsiki’s ambition to create her own wines grew following a collaboration with Californian winemaker, Helen Kiplinger, as part of Mika Bulmash’s Wine for the World initiative.

Her winemaking philosophy drew upon earlier experiences of harvest in Tuscany and Bordeaux, where she discovered a close affinity with nature that rekindled her own deep connection with the soil growing up in KwaZulu-Natal. She and her wines have won numerous awards over the years as further proof of her remarkable ability and impact on the wine industry.

We love Great Falls being a part of the great falls community! Since 2018 we’ve surprised and delighted the surrounding neighborhoods with weekly tastings, delicious new products, and an open airy feel to our store. It’s the spot to be for a local happy hour wine tasting every Friday!

Our store has been a part of the McLean neighborhoods since 2012! We’ve moved locations a few times but the best parts never change: incredible weekly tastings, stunning new products, and excellent service. Its not wonder we have so many customers who still remember our first location all those years ago!
