What kinds of things do you collect or own?

If you own assets such as a house, a car, unique shoes, clothes, jewelry, art, signed celebrity items (or any kind of collectable) you are the perfect candidate for learning about NFTs. You probably already understand you make your wealth as more people want to own what you have.

Sometimes things have value because of a backstory, because of the person who created it, or simply personal preference. recently shared a clever anecdote of why some NFTs are commanding such high prices- if we came over and drew all over your ceiling you probably would not be happy; but if Michelangelo had painted your ceiling- let’s talk about a priceless work of art. Sometimes it’s not about the money at all. Maybe you identify with something and you simply like it.
 
The NFT space is still new. It will likely transform over the coming years. We wanted to celebrate some of the awesome artists we met last year at the .conference Bitcoin Art Gallery to showcase how some artists are interpreting digital asset ownership.

Calling the adventurers of the world to explore the new realm of web3.

Here's a brief history of the web's transformation: Web 1.0 was read only- the early version of viewable information. You could see a shopping catalog but you could not interact. Web 2.0 is what we know and use today- considered the read/write era including social media. You could now add those catalog items to your online shopping cart. Web3 is a decentralized internet that is not owned by a central agency. We're not here selling you anti-government propaganda we just want to encourage people to understand their options in the future of technology.

If you own a Banksy painting you can't swap it for another modern print, because the original Banksy is unique and has it's own unique value. Compared to your cousin's homemade painting or a mass produced reprint of a Picasso, they all are paintings, but each has its own meaningful distinction (and value) from others.⁠ Just like you can't swap any house for another house, because there will be differences based on location, general condition and amenities. ⁠

If the explanation that an NFT means a Non-Fungible Token still makes you scratch your head let's break down the first part: wtf is a "fungible" asset? ⁠

Imagine this: you're standing at a vending machine that doesn't accept credit or Apple Pay and you pull out a crumpled dollar bill with folded edges. The machine won't accept it, but you really want that damn bag of chips. So you turn to the person behind you and exchange your crinkly $1 bill for their crisp $1 bill. This is a fair deal to both parties because dollar bills are a *fungible*, (interchangeable) asset. You can trade a standard dollar bill for another dollar bill (or a bitcoin for another bitcoin) because they hold the same value.
