🌸 Loving Kindness is Twice Blessed🌸
🌻 I felt gloomy the other day. The weather had been dark and rainy, and I just didn’t feel so positive. It happens to us all, I guess. ( By Lilia Potters )
🌻As I was sitting at my desk, I remembered it was the birthday of a dear long time friend-a single, middle aged woman who has dedicated the past 30 years to nursing and loves her work.
🌻Knowing that she doesn’t have family in town, I decided to give her a call. Sure enough, she was on B-shift, scheduled to work late into the evening, and wouldn’t have much of a birthday this year. As always, though, she sounded cheerful and was happy I called.
🌻 After I hung up, I couldn’t shake the feeling that she would really appreciate a little attention on her special day. Still feeling a little gloomy myself, I tried to put it out of my mind, but as the day passed I couldn’t shake the thought. I finally gave in, and that evening set off to the hospital with a card, a slice of cheese cake, and a “ flower” sculpted from ballons.
🌻 My friend’s grateful smile and joyful exclamations assured me I’d done the right thing and were a generous reward for the little effort it had taken.
🌻When I got home, I realized that not only and I cheered up a lonely friend on her birthday, but my own gloomy feelings had also disappeared. Making her day had made my own.
🌻 Isn’t that the way it is when we take the time and make the effort to do something for someone else? It’s like the little saying, “ Loving kindness is twice blessed; it blesses him who gives, and him who receives.”
🌻Cheering up people on their birthdays isn’t the only thing we can do to make their day. Life constantly presents us with opportunities to take an extra step or do a kind deed that will make a difference to someone. And the wonderful thing is that as we do, it changes things for the better for us too. Like a boomerang, the blessing comes back to us.
✳️Monday Morning ( by Lynn Matsumoto )
🌻 The waiting room in the hospital is crowed with people waiting to see doctors. An elderly woman, who looks like she’s in pain, keeps rubbing her body.
🌻 A girl who looks like a junior high school student sits with her head down. “ I had to be absent from school again. I’ll never catch up with the rest of my class, “she mumbles to herself.
🌻 A middle aged man talks loudly to the person next to him, presumably a friend who has come along to offer moral support. “ This relapse is probably going to cost me the new job that took me months to find. I worry for my family. “
🌻A little child sleeps in his young mother’s arms. “What’s going to happen to us if you have to stay in the hospital?” the woman whispers to her ashen faced husband.
🌻 Another man in a suit flips nervously through a magazine. Clearly his mind is somewhere else.
🌻 A tired old man sits with his eyes closed. Will he even have the strength or will to get up when his name is called?
🌻All of these people have one thing in common a heavy heart. The door opens and in comes a baby in a stroller that’s being pushed by her young mother. The baby looks around the room and greets each new face with a smile.
🌻The atmosphere of the waiting room changes completely. Somebody heave a sigh of relief. Someone else smiles back the baby. The child reaches out her tiny hand to the person sitting closest to her stroller, which happens to be the elderly woman. When the woman responds with a gentle squeeze, the baby’s delighted laughter causes more folks to smile.
💠 God’s love is like that baby’s smile. Whatever you may be suffering from, whatever your problem may be, God loves you deeply and is smiling softly at you. He’s reaching out His hand to you. Squeeze it and His joy will come into your life. 💠
