This is another drink we demonstrated for .farmshop recently, and another hit with fans of Diddly Squat’s drinks at the Silverstone Cocktail Masterclass. The Red One. Bitter yet subtly sweet with a more intriguing and complex story to tell the senses than first meets the eye. A Negroni riff, for Negroni week. An easy drink to mix, to share and enjoy with those you love to be with. The result will do all the talking needed to show off what you can do.

Recipe
Diddly Squat Chilli Gin
St Maur Elderflower Liqueur
Sweet Vermouth
Aperol

Pour equal measures of the four ingredients into a mixing jug with plenty of ice, and stir until chilled. Strain into a “low ball” or rock glass tumbler filled with ice. Express the zest from a peel of orange over the drink and drop in as a garnish.

We demonstrated this delightful, and surprising, cocktail for .farmshop at their Silverstone Festival Cocktail Masterclass. The Green One. It was a winner with the audience and we have been asked for the recipe by many who were there. We think you will love this one too.

We had a blast at Silverstone sharing this drink, and it’s definitely one to make when you want to show off your mixology to your friends, using fresh coriander and a gentle kick of chilli.

Recipe
75ml Diddly Squat Bee Juice Tequila
30ml St Maur Elderflower Liqueur
30ml freshly squeezed lime juice
1 fresh “Bird’s Eye” chilli (that’s a type of chilli, not a brand)
A handful of fresh coriander leaves (your own hand size will do nicely!)

Slice off the top ⅓ of the Birds Eye chilli and set aside the smaller end and stalk as a garnish. Cut the remainder of the chilli into three slices and place into a cocktail shaker along with the fresh coriander, and muddle hard together until the two are combined. Add the Diddly Squat Bee Juice Tequila, lime juice and St Maur to the shaker, along with ice. Shake hard (to thoroughly chill and aerate your mixture). Double strain into a “low ball” or rock glass tumbler filled with ice. Garnish with the end of your chilli and fresh coriander leaves, serve and enjoy.

Celebrate the solstice and warm summer evenings to come, with a cold Margarita, just as the sun goes down. Branch out and make yours with St Maur, to put a little drop of England’s heart® into the end of a long day.

Recipe:
25ml St Maur Elderflower Liqueur
50ml Tequila Blanco
25ml freshly squeezed lime juice
A splash of Cointreau

Add all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled (that’s the drink, not you). Salt half the rim of your favourite Margarita glass dampened with lime juice. Gently strain the mixture into the glass, over more ice if you wish, and garnish with a lime slice wheel. Enjoy until chilled (that’s you, not the drink).

Yesterday we welcomed two up and coming Directors to St Maur, along with their tutors, a presenter, camera and sound, providing our location and the St Maur story for them to use to make short documentaries as part of their professional training and career development at the BBC.

Well done and good luck to Leo and Luka.

Even the Elders would seem to be celebrating the Easter story? Our medieval St Maur ancestors would have known this fungus found growing on spent Elder trees as “Judas’s Ear”. We wish you a Happy Easter in a more contemporary style. Whatever you do on Easter Morning, we will drink to your health at Easter Day lunch with a St Maur Easter Cup, a perfect aperitif, made with a little drop of England’s heart® and an expectation of summer to come.

Recipe:
50ml St Maur Elderflower Liqueur
25ml English Vodka
25ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
3 roughly chopped strawberries
2-3 fresh mint leaves
Ice
2 quartered strawberries
Soda water
A sprig of fresh mint and a strawberry to garnish

Muddle the chopped strawberries and mint leaves in a mixing jug with the St Maur, vodka and lemon juice until the liquid is well infused with the strawberry. St Maur’s annual cycle starts at the Spring Equinox when we inspect the developing wild elder blossoms on our farmland and in our woodlands… …and we take the opportunity to forage for wild garlic to flavour the “Ladies Wood Martini”, an intriguing variation on an English Martini made with wild garlic and St Maur, a little drop of England’s heart®.

Recipe:
25ml St Maur Elderflower Liqueur
50ml London dry Gin
One or two fresh wild garlic leaves
A further small wild garlic leaf to garnish

Tear the garlic leaves and muddle gently in the gin in a mixing jug. Add ice cubes and the St Maur and stir until cooled. Fine strain into an ice cold cocktail glass. Garnish with a small garlic leaf.

We were absolutely delighted recently to team up with award winning Urban Rhino Gin at the new monthly showcase for musical theatre “West End Sessions” in London. Urban Rhino directly supports conservation of the endangered White Rhino in Southern Africa and protection for rhino calves orphaned by poaching. They also make a great gin! The event brought London its first taste of the Royal Rhino Cocktail, a signature riff on the French 75 cocktail made uniquely with Urban Rhino Gin and St Maur Elderflower Liqueur. Here is Urban Rhino’s CEO Pete Richardson with St Maur’s William Seymour enjoying the event together.

This weekend we celebrate the New Year with Chinese members of our family and friends. Each year in a new tradition we craft an exquisite St Maur cocktail for the occasion, and to share and enjoy throughout the coming year. This year, the Year of the Dragon, it’s time for the Dragon and Phoenix. A complex dance of taste and flavour, surprisingly easy to make, and a joy to serve.

Recipe:
50ml St Maur Elderflower Liqueur
2 tbsp scoops of red Dragon Fruit pulp
25ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
4 or 5 mint leaves
Sparkling rosé wine

Scoop the Dragon Fruit pulp (make sure you use red Dragon Fruit for this recipe) into a cocktail shaker, and gently muddle before adding the liquid ingredients except for the sparkling rosé. Gently crush the mint leaves and add to the shaker along with ice. Shake hard for 15 seconds. Fill a chilled champagne flute half way with the sparkling rosé wine, then gently double stain the liquid from the shaker into the flute. Top up with the sparkling rosé as required. Garnish with a peel of Dragon Fruit and a sprig of mint.

Best wishes to you for the Year of the Dragon.
