Circa Flags

Circa Flags Welcome to the world of Circa Flags, where beachgoers can create their own personalized flags and apparel to commemorate their family's history of beach-going.

The idea for Circa Flags came from the desire to celebrate and recognize the long-standing tradition of spending summers on the beach with family and friends. Have you ever found yourself sitting on the beach and wondering about the stories behind the people you see every year? Or passing by the houses of your neighbors and pondering how long their families have been coming to the beach? With Circ

a Flags, you can now proudly display your own family's beach legacy for all to see. Create a personalized logo with your family name and the year your family started coming to the beach. This logo can then be placed on a flag for your beach house or on shirts to wear while lounging in the sand. Show off your family's beach heritage and create a visual representation of the memories you have made over the years. Circa Flags offers a unique way to commemorate and celebrate the history of beach-going for families and friends. Poor or non-swimmers who are using flotation devices, especially a device not attached to the body, should never be more than waist deep in the ocean. Loss of a flotation device in water overhead can result in tragedy.

What!? When!? Where!? How!? Yes, it is an Eastern Box Turtle found while kayaking. It was swimming among the marsh grasses. How is that possible?

One of six species of Box Turtles found in North America, the Eastern Box lives on Assateague Island. It is easily recognized by its brightly colored yellow and orange high-domed shell. This predominately terrestrial turtle is commonly found in areas with many plants and trees; shrub thickets, grasslands, field forests and along the forest edge. While the adult Eastern Box Turtle is omnivorous, it is very carnivorous during its early years. They spend much of their young life in and along streams and ponds where hunting for small reptiles and fish is easier. It grows to its full adult size during its first five years, with a shell measuring 4 to 5 inches long.

That brings us back to how this turtle ended up in the cord grass at high tide. Perhaps during a recent isolated downpour, it was washed into one of the tributary streams of the Chincoteague or Sinepuxent Bays and then found itself caught up in the tidal current.

Although the turtle was not in its preferred environment, leaving it in the marsh grass was best. Its slightly webbed feet (remember it spends much of its early years swimming in streams and ponds) and the strong shell should allow it to swim back to shore and keep it safe from predators in the open waters. Remember, the wildlife should be left alone on Assateague Island!

Happy 15th Birthday, Bataar! 🥳

Bataar is a snow leopard, an endangered cat species native to the mountains of central Asia. Snow leopards are crepuscular, which means they are most active at dawn and dusk. At the zoo, you're much more likely to see them active in cooler temperatures. In the summer, they love spending time in their air conditioned building! Bataar is a shy, cautious guy. His mate, Maliha, really helps bring him out of his shell!
