- - The 2008 viticultural year: synonymous for an exceptional vintage - -
2008 was a year of unsettled weather: although cool spring temperatures lasted well into summer, the sun returned in time for harvest. Despite the changeable conditions, Maison Bollinger’s knowledge and expertise meant that they were able to keep their grapes in excellent condition, making 2008 an exceptional year marked by a bountiful yield of Pinot Noir. The wines were richly aromatic: the chardonnays were lively and powerful, and the pinot noirs were characterful and balanced.

To the eye
a wine glimmering with golden reflections.
To the nose
Enticing aromas of marzipan, stewed apricots, honey and breadcrumbs accompany fresh notes of bergamot.
On the palate
A rich, precise mousse. Citrus notes are followed by flavours of Mirabelle plums and vine peaches. A very vivaciours wine which unfolds to reveal exceptional complexity. Notes of fresh hazelnuts and salinity combine to create an intense, everlasting finish.

An enigmatic alchemy which relies on nature, craftsmanship and the quiet passing of time, what happens inside each cask under cover of darkness in the depths of the warehouse remains a mystery. Black Art 11 is a testament to this elusive mastery.
Using artisanal techniques passed down from one generation to the next; the spirit is pulled exclusively from Bruichladdich distillery pre-renaissance casks which have been patiently maturing on our island home for almost three decades. The finite single malt is created in secret by our head distiller, Adam Hannett, with the recipe only known to him.
Matured in the finest oak, this eleventh edition of Black Art showcases the captivating marriage of faith and ingenuity and we invite you to put your trust in us.
TASTING NOTES
COLOUR
Rich Tawny
NOSE
Dried fruits, leather and a hint of citrus immediately open on the nose, followed by a fresh sea breeze. Sweet fruit and floral notes come to the fore, with poached pear, delicate rose hip syrup, black cherry, and sweet mango. The complexity of the single malt is apparent as the aromas continue to open, with cedar and mellow oak complemented with butterscotch, praline, honey, and a hint of cinnamon. Warming oats are balanced with fragrant notes of rose and pear drops.
PALATE
Dried fruits, dates, raisins, barley sugar, leather and oak open on the palate, followed by butterscotch sweetness, praline and hints of coconut and fresh citrus. Sweet apple and pear are married with toasted oak, warming wood spice, dark plums and marzipan, with layers of depth opening with each sip.
FINISH
Oak and dried fruit come to the fore, with Christmas cake notes of sultanas, fig, marzipan, and lingering honey adding to the beautifully rounded finish.

TASTING NOTES
Triumph showcases a nose of vanilla, crème brûlée, and mint that transitions to apple, pear, and nutmeg. On the palate, the whiskey brings forth notes of sweet honey and spiced clove, giving way to dark chocolate, dates and spice with a finish of rich mocha-coffee and black pepper.

This has one of Lafite’s highest-ever proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon (alongside 2016, 1994 and ’61). The wine is finely sculpted, with a bell-like clarity and harmony that only comes from the great terroirs. It would be wrong to call the wine powerful, yet it has an unmissable presence. Descriptions at this level are usually elusive; there are snatches of floral perfume wrapped into hints of tapenade, graphite, to***co and much more. What truly beguiles are the extraordinary tannins, sapid and stiletto-like, that glint in every facet of the wine. They refresh as well as control the wine and are the epitome of great Cabernet. After the ebullience of recent vintages, this is a wine that makes you think, and one built to last for decades. Drink 2030-2055.

A tasting of the constituent lieux-dits before blending was as instructive as ever. Péléat was smooth, silky and red-fruited with good acidity; Beaumes slightly meatier, a little less concentrated than a typical year, but with good tannic drive; L’Ermite was serious, dry and mineral; Bessards very strict, with tight, rigid tannins. The final blend is likely to produce a structural rather than generous style of Hermitage, with tannins that will need a long time in bottle to settle. We are located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley. The name “Catoctin” is a regional name. Pronounced Ka-TOCK-tin, the name derives from the Indian tribal name “Kittocton” which, legend has it, meant “place of many deer”. Catoctin describes a range of mountains and the eponymous creek which flows picturesquely past the distillery and into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Watershed.
At Catoctin Creek, we believe in high quality food and spirits. “This 30 year old single malt not only celebrates the resurrection of our Victorian distillery but pays homage to the men who laid down this spirit three decades ago.
The future of Bruichladdich was uncertain in the early 1990s. From the brink of permanent closure to now the largest private employer on Islay, Bruichladdich Distillery and the local community has slowly rebuilt and flourished over the past three decades – all while this spirit has quietly matured.”

Color: Pale Gold
Nose: The gentle influence of oak opens on the nose, bringing notes of coconut, wild gorse flowers, Brazil nuts and a hint of vanilla. Subtle floral notes of geranium and rose are paired with pear drops and candied lemons, with soft spices and a whisper of cinnamon complementing Bruichladdich’s signature maritime character.
Palate: The delicate sweetness of toasted oak comes to the fore, followed by light fruits, honey, fudge and a hint of leather. The gentle floral profile opens with time, revealing an immense depth of flavour. The American oak shapes the softness of the flavour, with the delicate salty tang of fresh Islay sea air unmistakable on the palate.
Finish: The spirit’s all-Islay maturation significantly influences the finish, with a vibrant tang of sea salt balanced with warm oak, while soft vanilla and sweet coconut lingers

Colour: Golden hue of honeyed satin wood and gold.
Nose: Warm and appealing. Enchanting and exhilarating as gentle hints of sunkissed raisins, fresh peaches, tangerines and lemon grass evoke a sense of tranquility as they pleasingly drift in perfect harmony. Exciting aromas quickly follow on with nuances of creamy caramel and vanilla delicately dance in the background to complete this portrait of beauty.
Taste: Generous and satisfying. There is true elegance in its muscle as succulent figs, sweet sultanas and Napoleon cake reward the palate, with a hint of demerara sugar and molasses. Rich and intense at first but like all good things you must wait; after all it has taken many years to consummate this loving union of different seasoning from the selected casks. The aftertaste of glazed tangerines, marzipan and chocolate mousse with fresh hints of spicy ginger and nutmeg provide the perfect finish to this luxurious blended whisky.
