To make this special annual release, we distill all the ingredients needed to make a perfect Christmas pud, then age the liquid for a year in 100-year-old Muscat barrels. The resulting gin has aromatics of classic juniper and a hint of cinnamon, backed up with a rich palate and a hint of sweetness from the Muscat. Sip it neat, mix it with ginger ale or beer, or try it in some great cocktails.

This gin is a tribute to four things our Co-founder, Cameron Mackenzie loves: Australia, Christmas, gin and his late mum, Wilma.

Each year Wilma would use the 1968 Australian Women’s Weekly recipe to make her puds on Victoria Derby Day, while the rest of the family listened to the races. To this day, one of Cam’s great childhood memories is how his house would smell like Christmas over Cup Weekend.

“I found the recipe and thought it would be fun to start doing it with my girls every year. But even as I was buying all the ingredients at the shops (mixed peel, oranges, dried fruit) I just kept thinking how well it would all distill. This is the man who shaped us, built us, into what we are today. Ian Hunter resides in the soul of our whisky, and in the Laphroaig Ian Hunter Book 4: Malt Master, we honour his memory with a whisky every bit as rare and distinctive as he. A tribute to Hunter’s love for being boldly different, this is a whisky with real character born of the signature Laphroaig peat.

IAN HUNTER IS THE MAN WHO MADE LAPHROAIG WHAT IT IS TODAY.

He was an uncommon soul, with his own distinct manners and moods, not too unlike the whisky he gave to the world. We honour his memory with this series of rare and collectable aged whiskies in his name. Book 4, the latest in our limited series, celebrates Ian Hunter’s establishing of our malting floors and his legacy as the Malt Master of Laphroaig.

Ian secured the distillery’s lease in 1922, broke into America in the time of Prohibition, was the catalyst for a revolution in the use of American White Oak and is the reason why we are still among a handful of distilleries to maintain our own malting floors today. He put his heart and soul into ensuring Laphroaig was a whisky like no other.

In Ian Hunter Book 4 we pay tribute to Ian Hunter’s dedication to Laphroaig with a whisky every bit as rare and distinctive as he is. This 34-year-old single malt was carefully crafted from our own floor-malted barley and aged in the American White Oak casks Hunter was first to procure. Perhaps not for everyone, but for the discerning few, this will be a taste like no other.

Dom Pérignon has launched a limited edition series of bottles of its 2015 vintage Brut Champagne sporting labels inspired by famed artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Basquiat, who died in 1988, was known for his neo-expressionist style, and now, with the co-operation of his estate, Dom Pérignon has released bottles which draw inspiration from the artist’s 1983 work In Italian.

Now housed in the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the work shows Basquiat’s background as a graffiti artist, with scrawled slogans across the canvas.

Dom Pérignon has represented the work through a series of three coffrets, or gift boxes, which, when brought together, display In Italian in its entirety. This is, according to the LVMH-owned Champagne house, a nod to how the fine French fizz is made: “For the painting In Italian, the assemblage of materials and the successive pictorial interventions that hide each other until what was originally painted becomes indecipherable, opens the way to potentially infinite layers of meaning and multiple emotional configurations for the observer.”

“As for Dom Pérignon,” it continued, “the tension between the different characteristics of the original wines creates an extraordinarily rich alliance of meanings, without ever erasing the trace of the original matter.”

As for the actual bottles, each label features Basquiat’s signature three-pointed crown, in yellow, blue or green, atop the Dom Pérignon shield. According to Dom Pérignon, the shield represents the house’s protection of its ideals, and Basquiat’s crown signifies power.
