An amazing time at our partnerbar Flying Dutchmen Cocktails in Amsterdam yesterday for the New Years drinks. For this event Timo Janse created a special SMWS welcome cocktail with the 55.90 CHOCOLATE CRÈME BRÛLÉE WITH REDCURRENTS, a fantastic flavour experience!

Tijd voor wintervitamines!

In deze koude wintermaanden zoeken we warmte en verlangen we naar de zomerse smaken van fruit! Doe mee met onze ambassadeur Harry, en ervaar hoe de tonen van gedroogd fruit, sappige peren, kersen en bessen samenvloeien met de warme tonen van gerst, turf en vanille in onze society cask whisky's!

We nemen, zoals gebruikelijk in Weert, een selectie van 5 whisky's mee. Ze zijn zorgvuldig uitgekozen om je smaakpapillen te verwennen. Laat je meenemen op smaakavontuur en ontdek wat onze whisky's bijzonder maakt! Daarnaast geniet je uiteraard van een gezellige, ontspannen sfeer in het hart van Richard's Bar in Weert.

Wether it is single malt, grain whisky, rye whisky, blended malt, rum, gin, cognac, armagnac, bourbon or something else. For all types of spirits, exploration of flavour and sharing our discoveries is what we’re all about. Since we were formed in 1983, we have believed in doing things differently. We explore to find flavour in its purest form, this is what we prize above everything else.

The expression featured in the photo is a marvelous dram 143.5 called Enchanted Cake. A three year old single malt American whiskey, bottled at 59.2% from the Spicy and Sweet flavour profile, packed with wonderfull warming full notes. Matured in a #2 char new oak barrel. A flavourbomb.

Tasting Notes ••• lost in the depths of a dark forest we spied a flickering light from a cottage coated with gingerbread, fudge and muscovado sugar. Creeping closer we could see a pathway of honey-coated oats leading to a toasted oak front door with a cherry door handle. Delicious wafts of rye bread, mint and herbs merged with nutmeg and cloves in plumes of heady to***co smoke from the chimney. After a dash of water we creaked open the door to be taken aback by an intense burst of baking spices, oak chips and smoky old fashioned cocktails. On the fire chestnuts and honey-glazed peanuts were toasting, so we couldn't help but pull up a rocking chair and begin tucking in to sugared almonds and marzipan stollen bread.

Product Description •• The Society’s latest small-batch creation is the result of a collaboration with a Perthshire-based brewer and its experiment with a stout flavoured with locally sourced spruce tips. Julien Willems has the scoop on Batch 28 in our ‘Heresy’ series here.

Tasting Notes •• Sticks of calligraphy ink joined slices of dried papaya in maple syrup as autumn leaves fell upon school textbooks. Dark chocolate was found incarcerated in an old pipe to***co box lined with crystallised spruce sap. The nose had us in a boreal forest, but the palate transported us to summer fields and fruit orchards: green apple slices mingled with dried ginger, toasted cereals and a spoonful of thick-cut marmalade in an orchardist's to***co pouch. Water introduced nectarines and peaches, cedarwood mothballs and honey to the nose, while the palate transformed to a minted bay leaf bouquet garni, woven with nutmeg-infused orange peel, sweet chilli fruit leather and fondant.

Looking for the perfect hauf ‘n’ hauf beer pairing with your dram of Spruce on the loose? Jack Low from Wasted Degrees suggests their Amber Rye, a malty offering with complementary notes of marmalade.
