This year Longrow Red from . 11 years in bourbon casks and 4 years in pinot noir barriques from NZ. Smoke is light for a Longrow, red fruits and vanilla on the nose. Spices when you taste it, with some more smoke. Medium long finish. Extremely enjoyable! Santé!

Today, lucky to have opened sowing edition, the second bottling of the distillery released at 7000 bottles. 🐹🥃

Citrus, honey and herbal tea is what comes to mind while tasting. A very decent and elegant dram considering the young age and s(h) owing plenty of promises. Looking forward to older releases.

Being part of communities in whisky is always great. A good way to share samples but also to have access to special bottlings. This one is a that was bottled by Le Gus't for a specific Facebook group. 10 years old and aged in a bourbon barrel, 217 bottles were filled at 54.9%. 🐹🥃

Back to but going to the distillery next door. I didn't try many so far and gotta admit that's a very nice surprise.

Bottled at 54.7%, this first release of the 12yo seasonnal releases presents notes of vanilla and caramel on the nose. The palate is similar with some hints of spices on the top and the medium long finish brings some citrus in the picture.

Seeing how prices are going crazy for some releases, this is a very decent price for what you get.

I'm going with a whisky that doesn't need presentation anymore, 16-year-old but that's also getting hard to find at a decent price nowadays. Cheers 🥃🐹

Tonight I am treating myself with a back to back tasting of the , editions 2019 and 2020.

On my right, the 2019 edition, 77% bourbon casks and then some sherry (20%) and port (3%). On my left a funky bottled in 2020 aged 100% in oloroso sherry casks. Obviously 2 very different whiskies, though you can get the springbank feeling in both of them.

The 2019 edition is extremely pleasant on the nose, with some candied apricot, light smoke and vanilla. The taste gets even fruitier, it's oily too and the finish is medium long with a light slaty taste.

The late 2020 edition is very much influenced by the cask. The nose has good leather notes, meat, and dark fruits. The taste is a bit more peperry and with a mix of berries. Finish is longer, you get the sweetness and wood for quite a while.

They're almost too different to be compared but my favorite is the 2019 edition, the full oloroso aging taking a bit too much space for me in the 2020 edition. I still love both though!

Getting to the end of this wonderful from . Aged 12 years in bourbon barrels and bottled at a casks strength of 56.8% it is a mix of 3 different casks. 710 beautiful carafes were bottled. Got to admit these carafes are a sweet spot for me. They are stylish, massive, just beautiful. And generally the whisky in their is up to the beauty of the flacon!

With all this frenzy going on due to the new releases I had to take part in the craziness and I am doing a 1 to 1 comparison of the 10-year-old from March 2021 and the 12-year-old cask strength from January 2020. 🐹🥃

On the nose you can feel some similarities though the 12 is obviously stronger and dirtier.

For the 10 you get citrus, vanilla and slight peat on the nose followed by a more fruity palate, with banana and a pretty short spicy finish. At RRP, one of the best core range 10-year-old on the market... But even this core 10 is getting hard to find.

The 12-year-old CS from January 2020 was bottled at 55.3%. It aged 35% in sherry cask and 65% in bourbon. It's the twentiest batch of the series. After getting air for 15 minutes the nose really opens. It's much dirtier than the 10-year-old with a mix of peat, earth, some menthol but also the citrus and some salt. The taste is surprinsgky soft compared to the Abv. It's salty again, salt caramel, bit of chocolate and some fruits. It's good, with a longer finish then the 10yo, with a light smoke. Glad I still have a third of a bottle.

Continuing my back to the roots journey, tasting the 14, another of the classic malts. You get citrus notes, with malt sugar. The palate is quite similar with some salty notes on top of it, orange peels and some wood. A solid dram to continue identifying the basic of whisky. A whisky that everyone should have tasted at least once. 🥃🐹

Nowadays I am regularly trying some classics. I think it is good to try to get acquainted with the classics in order to be able to assess more the difference and richness of more complex or older whiskies. This from is a great daily drinker. It's very sweet with honey on the nose and get very nutty on the palate with some notes of apple. The finish ain't long but it's a very enjoyable whisky, again great for the price and to try different things. 🐹🥃

Each time I try a I am amazed by the quality of the blends. This one, No Name 3, is a mix of Laphroaig, Bowmore, Clynelish and Mortlach! What else can you ask for? You get the smoke and peat from the whiskies and also the oiliness and fruitiness from the others. A very subtle mix for a wonderful whisky. The finish is long so that you can enjoy the moment for a while!

Tonight is a bottle kill on a , cognac from Margotterie, bottle that was laying down there at my parents for a "few" years. This X.O. has the perfect cognac profile. A wienous profile with a hint of the oak barrels, candied fruits and some lemon. A perfect after food drink.

Slowly recovering, I'm having a Laddie in my glass, it's been a very long time since I had a sample from it so I thought it's great time to open a bottle. 🥃🐹

is a distillery I clearly don't know enough about. I've had a few Port Charlotte, including the heavily peated I very much enjoyed, once an octomore and I gotta to say that's where my knowledge stops.

The classic Laddie bottled at 50% is part of their non peaty range. You can feel the grain, the barley on the nose, mixed with some honey and dried fruits. You get also the barley with some fruits and sugar on the palate, and enjoy a medium long finish. It's a great whisky, especially for the affordable price.

After one week struggling with a flu, finally enjoying a little .distillery 14-year-old to get back into the game. After a break, voluntary or not, I always start again with some go-to whisky I especially enjoy, Clynelish 14, Ledaig 10, Talisker 10... to get back to tasting with taste profile I knowand challenge my taste buds a bit. Cheers, glad to be back! 🥃🐹

Tonight I'm trying this 16 years old, an official bottling showing an abv of 48%. 🥃🐹

This warm feeling of peat and smoke on the nose is extremely satisfying. It's medicinal but also shows some vanilla. The taste is pretty much according to the nose with a twist of pepper. The finish is pretty much on the smoke and oak, what you'd expect from a Laphroaig. It's good, if you like Islay and smoke, it's a no brainer. Cheers everyone and enjoy the week-end!

Tasting a is always a pleasure. Tonight I'm having the core range 18yo from 2020. Bottled on the 7th of January 2020 at 46%, it has been aged for 88% in bourbon casks and 12% in port casks. 🐹🥃

On the nose you get some pineapple, lime, even some cucumber notes and a warm smokiness. The palate was less impressive for me, but still extremely enjoyable, smoky, some light fruits and wood. The finish is pretty long, it let you enjoy the feeling for a while. Any other springbankers around?

Didn't wait long before popping the cork on this 15yo slightly peated , coming from , . 🥃🐹🦘

Distilled two and a half time, like some famous distillery in Campbeltown, it has been bottled at 46.2%. It's a mix of flowers and citrus, pretty light but with a lingering finish of some acidic notes and ginger. Me pilée ! You can feel a light peat on the nose and palate but it's subtle. It's well done, delicate, quite refreshing, probably a killer in summer!

Received an oldie today. Not only it's 25 years old but it was bottled in the early 2000s, meaning the spirit was distilled before I was born. I like how so many bottles hold a piece of whisky history. This is the classical 25yo from , just the version produced at the beginning of the century and I'll have to find yet another occasion to pop the cork and share the bottle with other whisky lovers.

Official bottling (OB) and independent bottling (IB) are two different ways to enjoy the whisky of the same distillery.

While the OB have to maintain regularity, especially in their core range, IB can play on the originality, whether with the type of cask, the age, the finish... I really like to discover distilleries with these two different approaches. For .distillery I am a huge fan of their 14yo core range, the oiliness is delightful, but I have some other bottles from the distillery waiting to be opened for comparison in the near future.

And you, what's your favorite ?

Treating myself with this classic 12yo which I can only recommend to everyone for the great quality/price ratio. A nice sherry whisky, matured in both PX and Oloroso casks. Behind it I have some of the older brothers waiting for some great occasion to be open.

As you can see I scored them right before the decison of the distillery to remove the non chill filtering and natural color mentions on the label.

Yesterday evening was another great tasting with the . As I mentioned in my previous post I didn't have the chance to try much whiskies from of the that weren't their peaty version, . Now I can say this has changed. 🥃🐹

A 4-whisky flight, two OB including their classic range, the 12yo which is a great sipper, and their 18yo aged in ex-bourbon casks, a cotton-candy bomb! And two IB, one 10yo cask strength from having in my opinion strange ressemblances to the ledaig expressions and a 13yo bottled by Morrison in their series, weirdly delightful!

First time I tried other expressions than the 12yo OB and probably not the last, great whiskies and a great evening shared in good company!

This is one of my favorites distilleries, not to say my favorite, though I have mainly tried the ledaig, the peated version of . 🥃🐹

I still have a lot to discover with their non peaty version in the future.

For the I have had the chance to taste plenty of their expressions, IB and OB and I am almost always amazed. It's meaty, smoky, peaty, a bit dirty but in a right way. They played with a lot of cask finishes as well with great results.

✅And free tip, the ledaig 10 is one of the best to go drams at a very reasonable price. I advice it to anyone.

The series from has done an impressive job in democratizing heavily peated whisky and changing habits in the marketing around whisky. It's also true for the whole . 🥃🐹

The big guy with the beard represents the region. Casks from ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and (probably just a drop 😂) are used to blend these wonderful whiskies. For big peat you have both a core range and lot of limited editions, either regionnally based (eg: Budapest, the Orange edition), event based (Christmas, DL anniversary) and some older expressions (33yo finished in cognac)

And you, a big peat amateur as well? 🔥

Two whisky fans trying to help others getting the best deals!

It all started when a Hungarian and a French guy living in Budapest spent too much time trying to find the best offers for the latest release, an older bottle or even a classic dram that we always wanted to have in our cupboard. Yes, it was available in this shop, but cheaper there. Then a third friend came in and said he knew it was cheaper on a third website and he forgot the name...

With all these troubles it came to our mind that a lot of great shops in Europe are delivering all over the continent but it is very hard to know which one has a product in stock, the best price or just special offer at a given time.

From there came the idea of Whisky-Hamster, because, like Hamsters, we like to stock as much as we can of all these beautiful whisk(e)ys all over the world so that we can enjoy them for the rest of our lives. We created our little Hamster friend, Dramzee and he will help you to find the best offer for your needs. From a Rye, to a Single Malt, from Italy to Scotland, from Suntori to Lagavulin, Dramzee has tried them all and have been everywhere (lucky him !).

Whisky-Hamster, we created it, and continue improving it in addition to our family life and our “classical” job. Yes, we would love for it to make a living for us, but we are not there yet. Great things take time. We use it, we have plenty of users who enjoyed it and we are doing our best to continuously improve it. That’s why we need you, dear users and followers, to tell us what could be improved, what you would like to see, or just to use the website each time you are looking for a whisky!
