Team member Ian
Ian will soon celebrate ten years with R&J! He started at R&J in early 2015 as an evening clerk, and now is responsible for merchandizing the beer cooler. His picks for the beer cooler are Boulevard Wheat and Sam Adams Non-Alcoholic Hazy IPA. He also has non-beer picks: the Maestro Dobel R&J Diamante barrel is something he recommends to our customers.
The most impactful change Ian has seen over the years at R&J is the building expansion after the dog wash was demolished (we bet you forgot about the dog wash!), giving us a much-improved parking lot.
Ian says R&J’s extensive selection of unique and hard-to-find items keeps new customers seeking us out and our regulars returning to the store. We think the longevity of employees like Ian is key to our success and are so grateful that he has remained a part of the R&J team for so many years.

Dustin employee spotlight
Dustin has been with R&J since 2017. He was back from college and told our owner he wanted to learn more about owning and operating a small business. She gave him a job as an evening clerk so he could learn firsthand! Since that time, he’s been a shift leader, a floor salesperson, and the Whiskey Ambassador. He is now our Store Manager.
Dustin says the store expansion in 2019 was significant in many ways, including giving customers more space to browse and allowing us to keep our selection and pricing competitive. He was most surprised when people from the surrounding neighborhoods who had never shopped at R&J quickly became regulars after the expansion. He says he’s seen an ever-growing selection of spirits and brands entering the market, specifically in tequila and bourbon, which continue to grow in popularity.
Dustin likes to point customers toward any of our “orange tag” items and our store selects, as they are all great value and quality.
If Dustin had to point to one thing that continues to drive R&J’s success, he says it is our staff. They have a good attitude and are very willing to help in any way they can. The store also gets a lot of positive feedback about our breadth of selection as well.
You can often find Dustin in the World of Whiskey area of the store. He Is always very eager to help our customers with hard-to-find items, so feel free to ask him for help next time you visit!

TBT 25th Anniversary
#TBT to the expansion of RJ Liquor back in 2018. As our team members can all attest, these improvements to our facility made shopping in our store an elevated experience!
Our locally-influenced murals invited visitors from all over, and the store expansion allowed us to provide more products in an easy-to-navigate space.

Paul
Paul is our boomerang – he worked for R&J in 2003, moved away from Wichita, then returned to Wichita and re-joined our team! He is our full-time delivery driver.
Nicknamed “Sexy Jesus” by one of our customers (and now by his wife), Paul says that over his years at R&J, he’s seen the staff become more knowledgeable about our products. He also thinks the culture and overall vibe of the store have improved.
Some of Paul’s store picks include Reyka vodka, which he describes as “clean,” and the Old Mattingly Hazmat is a “must-have,” in his opinion. He’s also a fan of the George Dickel 9-year pick and anything from Willett.
You may not see Paul around the store as much as some of our team, but he’s keeping the business thriving by getting our liquor delivered to customers. Thanks, Paul, for being an integral part of R&J!

Monica
“Location, location, location” benefited R&J in November 2019 when Monica was looking for a job close to her home! She came on as a register clerk, then took over tobacco and grocery products. Now, she’s our office administrator and tobacco manager, and has an overall wealth of knowledge about the liquor business. In her time at R&J, she’s seen a lot of changes, like moving products around the store and adding a high-end wine case. She also notes the significant change of increasing our wine discount to 20%.
One of her fondest memories at R&J also involves our location. One day, a stray dog ran into the store, so the staff posted its photo on Facebook. Within minutes, the owner came to recover him.
Monica likes to direct our customers to great deals, like wines with special orange price tags and New Amsterdam Hot Ones vodka. Perhaps that’s part of the reason she hears a lot of compliments from shoppers about our employees and their great customer support!
When you see Monica in the store, please tell her hi and thank her for her nearly five years of helping customers find spirits that fit their needs and their budgets!

Andrea team spotlight
Andrea was a CNA before joining R&J in February 2021 as a clerk. She now has smoke shop and register responsibilities and is proud of the customer services she provides in her position.
Andrea thinks that service and helping our customers to the vehicles with purchases are the things that have made R&J so successful in Wichita.
In her years at R&J, Andrea has seen notable changes that have positively affected business, like offering 20% off wine on Mondays and Tuesdays. One of her funny memories at R&J is when the staff made costumes out of wine boxes.
We’re grateful to Andrea for her years with us. Her dedication to our customers has made her an asset to the store!
