(1)

The Wilson County ABC Board serves the citizens of Wilson County by providing a pleasant shopping experience for our customers while at the same time controlling the sale of spirituous liquor and enforcing the laws and rules of North Carolina. The Wilson County ABC Board has a zero tolerance attitude for the purchase of spirituous liquor by underage persons and we strive to provide our employees with the training to keep spirituous liquor out of the hands of underage persons.

Talk It Out NC is the ABC Commission's underage drinking prevention initiative. Earlier this month, Talk it Out was honored by StateWays Magazine, the only national magazine devoted to issues affecting the Control States System, for having the Best Consumer Education Program of 2024! Talk it Out NC partnered with college athletes across North Carolina to spread awareness about the dangers of underage drinking and the benefits of making smart and healthy decisions on and off the field.

On July 2, 1935, the state’s first Alcoholic Beverage Commission—ABC, for short—Store opened in Wilson to an excited public. The store offered legal alcohol in the state for the first time in 26 years. On its first day of operation, shoppers purchased 825 bottles of liquor at a total cost of $1,003. There were no reports of rowdiness or drinking on the premises as had been predicted by prohibitionists.

Prohibition had been in effect in North Carolina since 1909 after voters approved a ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages in a referendum. North Carolina was the first state in the nation to approve such a measure and did so by a wide margin of 62 to 38 percent.

The rest of the nation joined North Carolina in 1920 with the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment, which made it illegal to manufacture, sell, or transport intoxicating liquors anywhere in the country. The amendment was repealed in 1933, and North Carolina was one of only two states that refused to ratify that repeal.
In 1935, the General Assembly passed laws that granted local options for the sale of alcohol and set up a system of Alcoholic Beverage Control Boards to administer retail shops.

NICE! 👏🏽 Congrats to the MS SGA and advisor Shantel Harris, who recently received a $3,900 grant from the Wilson County ABC Board to fund a substance prevention campaign. In April during Alcohol Awareness Month, the MS SGA will host a week of activities aimed at encouraging students to make the right choice for their futures by avoiding ALL substances, including ma*****na, CBDs, va**ng and alcohol.
We love this for our students!

Good evening.
First, congratulations to all of the lucky winners in our drawing last night!
Second, as I stated last night after the drawing, please do not call, email, or come to the store to purchase your bottles until we announce purchase dates and times. We will be announcing these dates and times soon. We will either email the winners or post a list of the winners/bottles with the pickup times. We have 204 bottles/winners and we need time to process. It took an hour and a half to draw these names last night. It takes much more time to get ready for the drawing and to get ready for the pickup. We will have at least two pick up times: one during the day and one after 5pm for those that can’t just leave work to purchase a bottle of fine whiskey.
Again, congratulations to the winners!!

2023/2024 Bourbon Drawing

06/01/2024

Good afternoon,

Our Bourbon Drawing will be held on Wednesday (1/17) at 6pm. We will be live on Facebook for the drawing. I will send out more details before the drawing.

This drawing is for Wilson County residents only and you must have been pre-registered. Registration has closed.

The Process
• I will randomly draw a bottle and then I will randomly draw a customer’s name.
• Winners will be notified via email concerning when & where to purchase their bottle. For those who are unable to come during the day due to work, I am planning on having a time after 5pm for you to pick-up your bottle.
• The person buying the bottle must be the person whose name was drawn and the address on their Driver’s License must match the address they registered with.

Shout Out! to the Wilson County ABC Board for their continued support! They recently provided funds for the Second Step Curriculum, which is a social-emotional learning curriculum for K-8 students. The curriculum teaches students how to cope with developmental issues and make good choices for their success. The units include: setting mindsets and goals; recognizing bullying and harassment; examining thoughts, emotions and decisions; and managing relationships and social conflict. We appreciate the support of the ABC Board for their generous donation of $4,481.42. Alcohol affects the adolescent brain differently than it affects the adult brain — because the human brain isn’t fully developed until about age 25.
