Had a fun day at the 2024 AFS Stateline Chapter Golf Outing with Brian, Brian, and Keith from Clinton Aluminum. We helped raise over $1000 for our foundry scholarship fund.

Congratulations to the students from School District of Beloit Turner, The Lincoln Academy and South Beloit College & Career Center on their graduation from the Craftsman with Character. A great group with very bright futures!

Many thanks to the schools, staff, parents & guardians, host companies and their mentors. This was a very successful first round of students for these schools in this program.

Our second team of Craftsman with Character students is nearing their next rotation. We had a great time with Jim & Ahn, who created patterns that were cast at Winnebago Foundry. Work-Based Learning at TLA!

Evan S. is participating in Craftsman with Character, a program that provides a comprehensive curriculum and fosters partnerships between businesses and high schools to create a pipeline of potential employees-with-character through mentoring and coursework with students.

Evan attended the orientation last week and learned a little bit about each company he will be rotating through this semester. He also got to meet the students from other area high schools that are participating in the program. For the remainder of the week, they visited the participating businesses. Thank you to Mid-States, CCI, Nohr Pattern, Spider Company, Versa Tool & Die, and Greenberg Casework for welcoming our scholar!

Evan is participating in this program as part of his required work-based learning experience and starts his rotation at Nohr LLC this week.

Last week I had the opportunity to talk about the casting industry and the work we do to the scholars at The Lincoln Academy. About 50 students in middle school and high school attended the talk. Here the students got to hold some of the 3D printed materials as well as iron castings and an aluminum pattern.

Our October ‘23 chapter meeting was held at The Butterfly Supper Club with guest speakers Brian Lewis & Maureen Gerard. They presented information about Foundry Education Foundation. A fish & chicken dinner was served.

Nohr LLC purchases Dick's Pattern Inc.

We are proud to announce Nohr LLC has purchased the business assets of Dick's Pattern Inc effective July 24, 2023. According to Jim Nohr, "This strategic move will build Nohr's workforce by bringing in Dick's patternmakers, upgrade our woodworking equipment, and add to our list of CNCs,"
Nohr LLC looks forward to meeting Dick's Pattern customers, continuing the relationships already in place, giving both sets of customers increased capacity and capability. Nohr's current customers will benefit from the increased workforce and equipment.
Dick's Pattern isn't just another pattern shop, this is my uncle, Dick Nohr's business. The Nohr family has a long history of patternmakers dating back to the late 1800's Don & Dick's, Uncle Joe. Brothers Don & Dick were partners in Nohr Pattern Co from 1978 - 1984 before they decided to go in different directions with their businesses. This purchase gives me the opportunity to reunite these two businesses making our operation stronger and more diverse in our capabilities.

We are looking for ambitous people for the position of Apprentice CAD/CAM programmer. The right candidate will be eager to learn Patternmaking which is making tooling for the foundry industry. Persons with an apptitude for visualizing 3 dimensional parts, moderate to excellent computer skills, preferred is someone who took STEM classes in high school or technical college.

Today we celebrate the 45th anniversay of Nohr Pattern Company / Nohr LLC. It has been an amazing experience to be part of a family business. I have so much love and admiration for my father Don Nohr who took a leap of faith and ventured out to partner with his brother Dick Nohr until 1984. I was coming out of high school at that time and started as a very green apprentice to this trade not many know about. We have stayed current with technology and keeping our price and pattern lead times as competitive as possible. I have to say I love my job and the being able to run a business. It is so rewarding! Thank you to our faithful employees, wonderful customers, and great supplier relationships we have built.

We had our Christmas party at Merrill & Houston's Steak Joint with our employees, my parents (founders of Nohr Pattern) and our core staff from the 80s and 90s many of whom stayed with us until their retirement. What a great night to catch up and tell old stories!!
