We want to take a moment to address the unwanted/homeless pet crisis in our area. Maybe some in the general public don’t realize this but we are drowning in unwanted pets in our area. We get many, many calls per day from people wanting to surrender animals to us. We get at least 10 request every day, usually more. Thats 300 people per month wanting to surrender a pet. We average around 30-40 adoptions per month. We are a private 501c non profit no kill facility. We do not serve as animal control for the city and we do not get any government funding. We operate strictly on donations and sales at our thrift store. We are no kill and do not euthanize for space. Once space is full we cannot take more until we do an adoption and a space opens. While we would love to help them all and take them all it’s just not possible. We don’t just want to say no. It breaks our hearts when we have to! In this current overpopulation crisis it is just not possible to take them all. We can only take what we have space for and staff to care for them and this is true of all rescues.
Please be kind to our staff and all rescues. Please understand that is a very difficulty job. We only put mostly the happy things on Facebook and honestly some of the awful things we see, the abuse and neglect, most people don’t want to see or know about. While we understand that it is frustrating when rescues can’t help please be kind and understand they are doing all that they can possibly do! They do not have endless space, endless people to care for the animals or endless resources for things like vet care! PLEASE spay and neuter your pets!

At The Purple Penguin we love our animals.. We have 3 dogs of our own! Remi, Jovi and Bentley! Animals truly are THE BEST… they love you unconditionally! They miss you when you are gone, they stand in wait and long for you to show back up (either from work or just coming out of the bathroom 😂😂) They are hands down the most loyal companion(s) you will ever know.

It is our mission at The Purple Penguin to make every dog possible feel that love back! On Sept. 13th, we are rolling up to the Wiregrass Humane Society to serve each person a FREE shave ice that brings in a donation for these babies… now, if you are feeling extra generous and bring in other items needed by WHS such as, Clorox wipes, Fabuloso, Bleach, Odoban, etc… we will throw in an additional shave ice for one of the shelter employees FREE!!!

These guys work so hard going in and out of kennels daily… cleaning, scrubbing, and loving on these fur babies.. it gets HOT, and we believe they also deserve a treat… But hold on… that’s not all! We couldn’t forget the animals now could we? Pup cups will be available for all animals on site as well.. that includes your own fur baby!

So help us out friends… bring by a donation on Sept. 13th (time TBA) and grab some free shave ice! I know some two legged AND four legged souls that will be very very appreciative 💜💜💜
