👑 Fit For A King 👑
In 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth made history when they became the first reigning monarchs to visit Canada, arriving by boat and traveling the vast North American distance by train.
Upon hearing the historic news, a Canadian spirits entrepreneur set out to craft a whisky suited for the Royal Couple – an exceptionally generous gift fit for royalty. With perfection on his mind, he meticulously trialed more than 600 blends before outfitting the final product in a cut-glass decanter and regal purple bag with gold stitching. The whisky he presented to the King and Queen was an exquisitely smooth blend of roughly fifty whiskies which became known, fittingly, as Crown Royal. The train carrying the monarchs was stocked with 10 cases of the royal blend and rumors of the unrivaled whisky fit for a King quickly spread. Crown Royal was released in the United States in the 1960s and has since become the top selling Canadian whisky. To this day, every drop of Crown Royal is crafted to meet the same uncompromising standards, making it, to many discerning palates, the finest whisky of all.

TEQUILA !!
La Gritona Reposado Tequila is a subtle rested tequila distilled by Melly Barajas and her staff of women at her small distillery in Valle De Guadalupe, Jalisco (NOM 1533). Melly distills La Gritona only with agave that has matured, always with an age of between 8-10 years, and all of her piñas must originate in the iron-rich red soil of the local Jalisco highlands. These agave plants are cultivated at the height of their sugar production, near the end of the life cycle. They are put into ovens within 24 hours of trimming. La Gritona IS and ALWAYS has been additive-free.Melly’s agave is first steam cooked in two thick-walled earthen ovens for 24 hours and then allowed to rest for another 24 hours before crushing. The collected liquid is naturally fermented and oxygenated in open steel vats at a rate that is dictated by the local air temperature. Once fermentation is completed, we distill our nascent blanco tequila twice. We rest the distilled blanco in reused American whiskey barrels (Jack Daniels and Balcones) for 8 months before bottling. Our reposado is very pale in it’s color for a tequila with an 8 month barrel rest. We use the same barrels over and over again to allow for them to become stripped of most of the residual oak, whiskey, and color. We like for barrel notes to be as stunted as possible in our tequila. Our aging is intended only to soften and round out the blanco tequila from which La Gritona is derived, not to introduce new notes. Our intention is to keep the verdant and crisp qualities of the original plant intact while still allowing it to age briefly in the oak. We do not use copper stills or a tahona, and we do not diffuse or use an autoclave. Our cooked agave is crushed with a steel mill and we distill our liquid in steel stills with copper coils. Every step of production takes place under one roof and our facility is overseen by a small staff of local women that work each process from start to finish.

Mead was produced in ancient times throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia, and has played an important role in the mythology of some peoples. In Norse mythology, for example, the Mead of Poetry, crafted from the blood of Kvasir (a wise being born from the mingled spittle of the Aesir and Vanir deities) would turn anyone who drank it into a poet or scholar.

This family estate located in the Costieres de Nimes takes its name from a wild, aromatic herb La Patience that can be found throughout the vineyard. After a decade of managing the winemaking at a local cooperative, Christophe Aguilar decided it was time to make his own wine. Today Christophe farms 60-hectares of vines, these were the same soil that his grandfather farmed fifty-years ago, with a deep respect and understanding of its terroir.

Corvina is an Italian red wine grape most famous as a key constituent of Valpolicella wines, along with Rondinella. Its most commonly cited characteristic is its sour cherry flavor, as well as its lack of color and tannin – Corvina wines tend to be bright red and lighter in structure.

The first thing that jumps out about the new Hand Barrel whiskey brand is its bottle. Yes, the barrel-shaped stunt has been done before, but Hand Barrel’s modern design doesn’t compare to anything else available at the moment. Of course, it’s what’s inside that counts. The quality whiskey comes from Bardstown Bourbon Company, a Kentucky-based distillery that contract distills for other brands, and bottles its own bourbon, rye whiskey, and blends. There are a few different expressions made from Hand Barrel, each with a high-rye mashbill of 64 percent corn, 24 percent rye, and 12 percent malted barley. These include black and white bottles of 105 proof bourbon and a cask-strength single barrel bourbon.

Calling Irish ☘️ Whiskey lovers!!

Powers is one of the most storied names in Irish Whiskey, tracing a lineage back to 1791. It’s also an excellent expression of what a narrow “heart” cut can do for a whiskey.

When distilling, distillers make cuts around where the “good” distillate is. Heads are the first chemicals to evaporate, and you want to get rid of those - it contains, among other things, methanol, which is behind the all-too-true stereotype of moonshine making people go blind. These volatile compounds are almost entirely unusable, and are either discarded or sold off.

On the other side are the tails, heavier compounds that are the last to evaporate - fusel oils, fatty acids, and high-boiling-point chemicals that, while not as dangerous as the heads, can cause off flavors in a final product.

In between those two are the hearts. The hearts of a distillation run are the sweet spot, and vary by distillery and even by distiller within a distillery. If you imagine the entire distillate as a spectrum, let’s say from 1-10, count the heads as 1-2 and the tails as 9-10 (note: this isn’t for scale so don’t go complaining that my imaginary numbers are off).

That leaves 3-8 as the hearts. Within that range, there’s a lot of variation to be had. One distiller will focus on the higher ends while one might focus on the lower. It all depends on what characteristics they’re looking for.

Powers prides themselves on using the very core of these hearts, making progressively more select cuts to the heads and tails on each of the three distillations. What’s left is then aged in 2nd and 3rd fill American oak casks, meaning minimal cask influence - just enough to round out sharp edges and add some body, but not nearly enough to truly change the character of the whiskey within.

Powers Gold Label Irish Whiskey is all about the heart of the hearts - and they do exactly what they should with them: let them shine

📞 Calling All Rum Drinkers 📞

The Kentucky Cask Series features small-batch rums partially aged in Kentucky and blended by RFS founders Turner Wathen and Jordan Morris. The founders blend each limited release for a flavor profile lending itself to extended aging in hand-selected casks in Kentucky bourbon warehouses.

RELEASE 1: BATCH NO. 2020B1

For the inaugural release of the award-winning Kentucky Cask Series, we blended a small batch of rum distilled in El Salvador. To reinforce the subtle sweetness of this aged rum, the founders selected several American Oak Kentucky bourbon barrels and rye whiskey barrels to add sweet notes of vanilla, caramel, floral and citrus. To balance these sweet flavors, some of the rum was aged in French Oak port casks and sherry casks. The casks add strong baking spice, hazelnut, and dark fruit notes. After two Kentucky summers in a bourbon warehouse, the founders blended the casks to achieve a well-balanced rum. It highlights the hand-selected barrels, and unique aging characteristics only available in Kentucky. This release is bottled at cask strength.

Islay Gin 🍸

22 hand-foraged local botanicals delicately augment nine berries, barks, seeds and peels during an achingly slow distillation.

"When we distill The Botanist, we are creating something more than a drink. The Botanist is a representation of the place we are from. It is a way of communicating our place in the world and our love for it.

"Distilling is a way of life, and for me it is a way of communicating to the world. We use the art of distillation and a connection to the land, our home, to create a wonderful gin that's the essence of Islay."

Blade and Bow is named from the main components of a key. Why name a bourbon after parts of a key? Because that is what decorated the door to the Stitzel Weller Distillery in the past. The five keys that were mounted on the door represented the five tenants of whiskeymaking: grains, yeast, fermentation, distillation and aging. Stitzel Weller created some of the greatest bourbon in the world (including Pappy Van Winkle) for decades before it ultimately had to shut down.

The facility stopped producing whiskey in 1992 and was bought by Diageo in shortly thereafter. Diageo began to slowly remodel it in the early 2000s. They weren’t in a rush because what they were really after were the warehouses that still contained a decent amount of bourbon that came with the sale of the place.
Rumor has it that they did use the remaining partial barrels to mix with the new production.
