Zinfandel 2020 Trig Point from the Railyard vineyard. A vineyard we own right in the heart of Geyserville. Beautiful wine but very limited.

A discription of all 4 wines. Trig Point is named for my Land Surveyor father. A genius mathematician and also an explorer spending 2 years on the Rose Ice Shelf of the Antarctic 1958 and 59. A trig is a point of measurement or a sight. So just as a Trig is just that so are these wines. Single vineyard, single varietal and a point of reference for the area.

A beautiful old vineyard planted int eh 80's to an old field selection of Chardonnay. No modern clones here. Grown on a sandy loam with I hate to say, very low yield but it makes up for it in intensity. Lovely subtropical nose of pink melon and passion fruits in the nose. The mouth is bright and clean on entry but has a marvelous texture and weight to finish. A touch of wood, a touch of butter and all native ferment. A real hands off wine. Only 500 cases made so look hard but it is worth it.

A beautiful little east facing slope protected from afternoon sun allows us to make full flavored wines without the high alcohol. Old vines means naturally balanced and the lack of water means veyr small berries. Awesome

We love Merlot at Trig Point Wines. A very old vineyard on a slightly clay soil are keys to making great Merlot. The old vines are naturally balanced and the clay alows the soil to hold a litlte more water so we do not get dehydration through the season. When we bring the wine into the winery then we can extract it fully. This is a Cabernet drinkers Merlot for sure.

Just a great litlte vineyard in the middle of the Alexander Valley. East facing so we just have morning sun so we can pick a litlte earlier relative to alcohol. We can still achieve great fruit weight and enough power to make the wine really interesting and complex

Trig Point Merlot 2015

Nick Goldschmidt is one of my favorite wine makers. He consistently crafts wines of high quality in different climates and even hemispheres. His father was a land surveyor and a ‘Trig’ is used to establish boundary lines. Goldschmidt’s Trig Point wines show the unique soils of the area he gets the grapes from, namely Alexander Valley. The vineyard is located on the southern (and cooler) end of Alexander Valley which makes it prime territory for producing low yield, high quality Merlot. This 100% Merlot offers flavors of intense black cherry and rhubarb jump into easy acids and well rounded tannins. Notes of strawberry and freshly picked plum meld into the core of the wine with touches of graphite and dusty minerality. The finish is deliciously long with 12 months of French oak aging in 20% new barrels and just a touch of new American oak which gives hints of creamy vanilla bean, cinnamon, and cedar. The finish smacks of blueberry pie! James Score: 90 Points
