The Chardonnay variety is native to the Burgundy vineyard, and, more specifically, to the surroundings of the town of Chardonnay, where the cultivation of the vine is already mentioned in the 10th century. If the Roman name of the town was Cardonacum (a place where thistles grow, chardon in French), this evolved into chardonay and the strain was known as chardenet, chaudenet or chardenay until the Congress of Ampelography of Chalon-sur-Saône of 1896 established the current name.

Do you know the Criolla grape?
The origin of this variety is located in the Canary Islands, and it was one of the first grapes to reach these latitudes at the beginning of the 16th century. Criolla is the Argentine adaptation of these first varieties that landed in the territory. It is known as Uva País in Chile, Negra Mollar in Peru and as Mission in California.
Criolla has everything that is trending in current wines internationally, it is a type of American Pinot Noir, since both are quite similar: light in color, light in body, fluid and well vinified, they have very good tension and texture. In addition, they are extremely versatile: they go well as an aperitif or combining a wide range of meals.
Be sure to try this Criolla Vallisto from northern Argentina. A true gem.
