It has taken me quite sometime to come to the decision I am about to announce, but it’s a decision I am not sad about so I know it’s the right one to make.

After 14 years of making diaper cakes for loved ones both near and far, for local customers and those states away, I am retiring.

Lately, when I get an order it’s become more of a chore to fit it into my lifestyle, and I no longer find great joy in creating them…which is why I need to be done.

I thought being a mom to two teens/young adults and being a new intermediate teacher would provide me time, but my time is limited and my priorities have greatly changed.

So I thank you all for your support and love. I appreciate your kindness and understanding.
Who knows what the future brings, perhaps one day I will get back at it.

I will be deactivating this page in a month or so.

Sometimes it’s hard to visualize the “ingredients” in a diaper cake. Here’s a snapshot of one I am starting to make. It’s pretty much a full baby shower in one cake, as it will contain:

40 Pampers Swaddle size 1 diapers
1 Swaddle Designs 42x42 cotton flannel blanket
1 Jellycat Giraffe plush
1 onesie
1 headband bow
1 Pair of ruffle leg warmers (not pictured)
1 Wubbanub pacifier friend
2 washcloths
2 Receiving blankets 30x30

I have received some very kind messages and have been notified of a few potential future orders recently. With that said, I wanted to remind my customers the more notice you can give me the better. I am a brand new elementary school teacher and come fall I will have a lot on my plate, so if you need a cake after September, please give me a lot of notice, or order ahead of time in August. Today is all about catching up on orders now that I am done with my graduation and my son’s graduation party (very busy weekend—like extremely)…

I haven’t created a classic Winnie the Pooh diaper cake in quite some time. It was nice to have this order requested for a little baby girl-to-BEE. Silly ol’ bear is still trying to get that honey from the hunny pot. 😉

There is a children’s dentist 45 minutes away from me who has ordered probably close to 10 cakes from me over the years. I met them (husband/wife team) at the farmers market back in the day.

I hadn’t heard from them in a few years and was just thinking of them yesterday. Today they called and asked if I was still making cakes and if I could make a “girl” cake. Just so happens I have to be in their area tomorrow, so this was meant to be!

When a customer gives me “designer choice”, the turnaround is much faster…even more so when I am a teacher on summer break who has the time to knock this one out before tomorrow.

When your customer wants a purple and green diaper cake for a gender neutral baby gift. I must say, this gave me a challenge to find a purple onesie as requested that didn’t have ruffles or bows attached at the neckline.

This cake contains:
40- Pampers Swaddler size 1 diapers
1- Swaddle Designs blanket
1- Elephant plush
1- Elephant wubbanub
1- beaded baby teether
2- onesies (6months)—green and purple

I love when I have repeat customers. I love even more that I’ve known not only the customer, but also the recipient, for over 25 years (aging myself).

Hello all!
Just letting you know that I’m back and open for business. I am now a teacher and loving it! I have found balance between work and home, for the most part.
If you are needing a diaper cake, please send me a message, however, I do ask for a minimum of two weeks notice please. There is still a lot on my plate and I want to be sure that I have enough time to gather the items needed for your order.

It is the eve before I start my journey towards the final step in getting my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education––student teaching. With that said, Simply Shontay Diaper Cakes will be put on hold until February. This hobby turned business (then back to hobby) has kept me busy and has provided me the opportunity to creatively express my love of making things for people. I thank all my customers and ongoing accounts for trusting me to make something special for your gift recipients. Don't worry, it's not over...it's just "see you later".

A baby shower I attended today…sunflowers were the theme. I really wanted to use this blanket from Swaddle Designs (bottom tier), so went with a pink and brown color scheme, made a custom onesie donning the baby’s name, and added a Jellycat Bunny—my favorite plush.

I love sloths...like totally pulled a Kristen Bell when I found out I was going to hold some a few summers ago (look that video up if you don’t understand the reference)....with that said, in the 12 years I have been doing this, this is the first sloth to don a cake. Just want to be a bit transparent with my supporters of this hobby of mine. I am in the final stretches of college to obtain my teaching degree...and it's getting real, real fast. I have been able to navigate home life, working, and college with my side hustle of making diaper cakes, but come fall, I will need to take about a 5-month hiatus.

SO....if you know of someone having a baby in the fall/winter, and you have thought that a Simply Shontay diaper cake is what you would want to give, I strongly suggest ordering this summer. I would be happy to create your vision until September 2021.
