Today’s feature is the 3rd release from The Macallan’s A Night On Earth annual bottle. We received this bottle this week and it is now on the shelf. It’s always one we look forward to trying!

This release is inspired by New Year’s Eve in Jerez de la Frontera: a night full of meaning and tradition, known as Nochevieja, meaning Old Night.

In many cultures around the world, the year’s end is a time for togetherness. A night to be with people we love the most, to reflect on what has passed, and to toast what is to come. With this celebration comes traditions and rituals that have been handed down from generation to generation, until they become part of the soul of a place.

New Year's Eve in Spain is inextricably linked with grapes and the sound of church bells welcoming the arrival of the New Year.

It is said that anyone who managed to eat 12 grapes before the midnight bells stopped ringing was bound to have a good year.

This tradition began at the end of the 19th century and was popularised by farmers in Southeastern Spain during a particularly good year for crops, when they started selling their surplus of grapes as lucky tokens to celebrate the New Year.

Staying on the scotch aisle, this morning we share 3 more offerings from Macallan. All 3 of these are currently available at NT’s Liquor & Wine.

Macallan Estate Master Whisky Maker notes include……

Nose: Sherry on the nose, sweet Olosoro, pepper, berry fruits, calves leather and cedar wood.

Palate: Spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, rich sherry, cocoa, coffee beans and caramel.

Finish: Citrus, potpourri, malt, berry fruits, toasted walnuts, almond oil.

Macallan 18 Year Double Cask Master Whiskey Maker tasting notes……

Nose: Dried fruits, ginger, and toffee. Rich orange with hints of clove and nutmeg.

Palate: Rich raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla, and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus.

Finish: Warm oak spice with a hint of sweet orange.

Nose: Impressive depth on the nose.

Lets’s talk a little scotch and start on the TOP SHELF! Today we’re featuring two from our Macallan line.

First up is the Macallan 30 year. Tasting notes from master whisky maker include……

Nose: Rich sherry notes, citrus, baking spice and wood smoke

Palate: Smooth and inviting, with notes of dried fruits, sherry, citrus and wood smoke.

Finish: Lingering and rich, with orange and spice.

Next up is the Macallan 25 year. Tasting notes from the master whiskey maker include……

Nose: Citrus, pumpernickel, sherry and burnt wood.

Palate: Raisins, dried cherries, chocolate and campfire smoke, which leads to a finish accented by cloves, fruitcake, gingerbread and lemon

Finish: Full and lingering with dried fruits and sweet toffee, ginger and a hint of wood smoke.

Last week was CRAZY busy but we snuck away for a little trip to help our friends from Jasco Wholesale Liquor & Wine do a little barrel picking. We love great news about the liquor and wine business and this week Mississippi got some great news! Ground was broken this week on what will be the largest distillery in the state to date. Rosedale Distilling Company will be located in Bolivar County and will be repurposing 130,000 sq ft of space that has sat vacant for over 25 years! How cool is that!?!? Welcome The Rosedale Company LLC and rosedale_distilling! We can’t wait to have your products on our shelves to share with our friends in North Mississippi!

What’s better than 1 new store pick introduction on a Saturday?!?! How about 1 more!?!? And this one isn’t just your average pick…..

Introducing the crown jewel of our 2024 picks, NT’s Liquor & Wine Willett Family Estate 11 Year Old “Purple Top” Store pick. Yes, you read that right, this bottle is 11 years old and checks in a 124.4 proof. Fun fact before our tasting notes on this bottle, over 50% of this wonderful barrel was lost to angel share during aging.

Whenever we think about the long history of Willett and their unique mash bills, one important thing making them easy to recognize is their unique pot still finishes. This selection is absolutely no different.

Our close-knit group of friends who accompanied us on this pick decided to name the bottle “Tupelo’s Blue Suede Booze” to pay homage to our town and our late hometown hero, Elvis Presley. This bottle comes with a label on the back that displays that name and bottle number out of 108.

On the nose: milk chocolate, small hints of mint sun-dried cherry, toffee and pecan.

Palate: Very savory, palate coating that makes you come back with a very warm chest.

Finish: Very long finish that lingers and stays with you.

Willett always gives us a unique leather profile that only improves as time passes. This one promises to be no different. Stop in and grab yours today because sadly, we know this one won’t last long!

Another one of our recent barrel picks now on the shelves comes from one of our favorite distilleries, Maker’s Mark. We shared this pick with our great friends at Jasco Liquor in Jackson, MS. Be sure to stop by and see them should you be in that area.

Maker’s Mark Private select is a very unique process where every selection begins with a barrel of delicious Maker’s Mark 46 Cask Strength that has been aged for 6-7 years. We then get to select a combination of 10 different types of wood staves that are inserted directly into the barrel, resealed and aged an additional 9 weeks in their 50 degree limestone cellar. This process gives it our own special touch! Our stave recipe can be found on the bottle in our photo and I’m sharing the stave profiles in this post.

1) Baked American Pure 2 (BP): Baked American Pure is American oak that's slowly toasted. BP, or Baked American Pure, is made from American oak and is the first stave sampled in the program. It adds notes of brown sugar, vanilla, caramel and spice.

2) Seared French Cuvée (Cu): Next in order is Cu, also known as Seared French Cuvée. Cu is made from French oak that's ridge-cut and seared with infrared heat. It imparts toasty notes of oak and caramel.

3) Makers 46 Stave (46): The Maker's Mark 46 stave is the one that started this whole experiment. It's made from seared French oak and delivers dried fruit, vanilla and spice. A barrel fitted with 10 of these staves would give you a cask-strength version of Maker's Mark 46.

4) Roasted French Mendiant: Roasted French Mendiant is French oak cooked on low in a convection oven. It adds pleasant traces of milk chocolate, nuts, and dried dark fruit.

5) Toasted French Spice (Sp): Toasted French Spice is a French oak stave, toasted at first high heat then at low temperatures in a convection oven. This stave has a flavor profile of smoke, coumarin and spice.

Today we share BOTTLE 4 of our Southern Collective “The Tupelo Project.” This bottle is the foundation of the past bottles we’ve shared over the last 3 days. Today’s bottle is our 121.2 Southern Collective Rye Whiskey. We immediately loved this bottle and just knew we had to try it finished in some other varietals. We could not be happier with this project and cannot wait for you guys to try these! Stay tuned as more picks have arrived and more are on the way!

Today is BOTTLE 3 of our Tupelo Project with Southern Collective. This bottle is again, our 6 year old rye whiskey and this time we finished it in a maple casks! Lots of delicious maple flavors through the nose and palate with a delicious finish! This bottle checks in at 116.8 proof and is now on the shelves at our store!
