After a nice hiatus from the hot temps, looks like Mother Nature has decided to go all scorched earth on us for the next few days, and based on buying patterns during hot weather, we know that beer drinkin' picks up when it's hot outside. While it can help keep you refreshed, don't forget that consumption of alcohol during high temperatures has it's risks, so here are some quick tips to help minimize any negative effects:
1) as with any alcohol situation, moderation is key! Your body releases sweat to keep itself cool, but alcohol can cause you to sweat less, giving a higher chance for heat exhaustion and or heat stroke.
2) Try not to drink anything loaded with sugar. Sure, sweet, fruity boozy drinks may be tasty, but they are chalk full of sugar, which as a result can make your more thirsty as you drink, so you drink more to try and quench that thirst, increasing chances of dehydration. Try more low sugar and carb options outside!
3) Get that H2O! Keep yourself well-hydrated and get a glass of water in between alcoholic beverages. Your body will thank you and help lower any side effects such as fatigue or headache.

Based on their partnership with the U.S. Open, Dewar's has released their fourth Champion's Edition to celebrate the Open's 124th Championship. This 19-year blended scotch is created by Dewar's Master Distiller Stephanie Macleod, finished in ex-rye whiskey casks.
We also brought in their 3rd release from 2023, for the 123rd Open, this limited release now a collector's item! Both at Vern's for a limited time!

HARD MOUTAIN DEW UPDATE:

We are anticipating many phone calls and store visits by those who have seen Hard Mountain Dew packs on shelves in Kansas... the good news is that, yes, these malt beverages have finally made it's way to our state. However, the bad news is that, due to to the politics of distribution agreements (or lack thereof), Shawnee County will NOT be included as a distribution market, meaning that no store located inside the county will be able to legally have these in stock. Until an agreement can be made, we will not have them for you. SORRY! You can find them in neighboring counties, so if you want some you can still find some for purchase!

This upcoming Monday is for remembrance and giving thanks for those who have fallen, and that we can honor each of their sacrifices by upholding the principles and ideals they fought and died for, so that our nation can prosper with the understanding that prosperity is achieved together, and not alone. And while there are so many things recently that are trying to divide us, the American people, we must not forget that we all have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, an ideal that so many individuals have fought and given their lives for. We offer our thanks and gratitude.

The new Doc Swinson Exploratory Cask bottles have landed! Just in this morning, their newest additions are on the shelf and ready to be purchased by you. Their Moscatel is their staple Blender's Cut that is finished inside Portuguese moscatel casks that adds notes of honey, apricots and wildflower, while L'Esprit is Blender's Cut that is finished inside French cognac casks. Both are bottled at cask strength of at least 105 proof. Calling all Doc Swinson fans, stop by and claim yours before they are gone!

Effective this upcoming Monday, April 15th, there will be two new common consumption areas in downtown Topeka, including Kansas Ave from 10th to 4th St. What this means is that anyone 21+ can enjoy a purchased alcoholic beverage outside any bar/restaurant within the drinking zone, between the hours of 8AM and midnight. While there are some legitimate concerns about outdoor consumption in public spaces, we think that this idea is a great way to further support local establishments, while increasing public attendance to the downtown sectors, as it encourages visiting multiple businesses during a visit to try their drink specials and/or menus. So let's go bar hopping downtown! Enjoy this new downtown feature, and please do so responsibly!
