3/7/24: There are boats where people were ice fishing last weekend...

Ice report 3/1/24: There's still ice, barely but it's still hanging on... The east shoreline is pretty much open water, I did find a sliver of ice to walk out on and I found 4-6" of severely honey combed ice. There are a few anglers off the west shore fishing for pike today. There is no ice out on the big bay anymore so hopefully the first responders are done with ice rescues for the season... The Sturgeon Bay shipping canal has had boats out in it all week. It's time to get your favorite casting rod ready and start prepping the boats and trolling gear. I think your best/safest option for fish this weekend is stopping by next door at Carjack's Diner for the Friday fish fry or visiting our friends over at Lindal Fisheries on Cty Rd M and in the very near future you will be seeing Lindal Fisheries products in our coolers. This will be our last ice report for the season, we'll be watching the boat ramps from now on and will report on ice out. Have a great weekend everyone.

2/23/24 ice conditions: Shallow shoreline of the east shore deteriorated further. West shore from Carmody Park, anglers have been accessing the ice here all week, ice is still averaging 6-8" and is quite honeycombed from the sunny warm week, the ice firmed up a bit today with the cool down. Anglers are still walking off Henderson Point and Wood Lane. This cool down is just a bandaid on sun beaten ice, if you venture out check ice as you go and be aware of wind direction if you venture out near the points.

Ice report 2/16/24: East shore from the curve on Stevenson Pier Rd the shoreline firmed enough for me to make it off shore this week, but it is still quite thin until about 4 feet of water where the ice is about 5", further offshore it is about 8". West shore at Carmody Park next to Wave Pointe the ramp is still chunked up. I accessed the ice by the benches and flag pole. Just offshore I found about 8" and further offshore ice thickness averaged 8" as well. Shallow rock bars remain open or just skimmed over with ice from the cold night. Creeks are still running. I witnessed anglers walking around Henderson Point and a guide with shacks at the mouth of the bay, I did not check ice in those areas. As always be safe if you venture out, check ice as you go, be mindful of wind direction as there is open water past the points and keep a set of picks on you.

2/9/24 ice conditions: Soft. From the east shore off Stevenson Pier Rd at the curve the shoreline is melted in the shallows at shore or too soft to walk on. I turned around as my spud bar was going right through the ice and I could feel that there was about a foot of water beneath the ice and I didn't want to fill my boots... From Carmody Park next to Wave Pointe, the boat ramp is all chunked up. The few anglers that walked out from Carmody accessed the ice on the south side of the dock. Once off shore I found 6-8" of black softer ice. After a warm week and south winds there is open water not far out from the points, the only activity I saw out there was guides with airboats, ice was not checked out there. If you choose to venture out this weekend be extra attentive and check ice as you go and pay attention to wind direction.

2/2/24 ice conditions: Overall this week the ice thickness has not changed. East shore from the curve off Stevenson Pier Rd is still 12-13" near shore and 8-10" out further. West shore from Carmody Park 8-9". However every hole I drilled started hard on top then had a slushy layer about a third of the way then hard again at the bottom. The integrity of the ice did change this week, it is not rock solid top to bottom. Also shallow rock bars really thinned out or opened up, as well as near the wall at Carmody. The edge of the ice is also damaged from wheelers at Carmody. All wheelers currently on the ice today got on at the north end of Stevenson Pier Rd at Wood Lane Rd access. The ice looks pretty good after a night below freezing and with a dusting of snow on it, but don't let that give you a false sense of security. Always check ice as you go. Creeks are also running so be careful near creek mouths. Have a great weekend.

1/26/24 ice update: East shore from the curve on Stevenson Pier Rd, the ice is currently firm, 13" near shore and about 8-10" once you hit the smooth ice out further. From the west shore at Carmody Park next to Wave Pointe, firm 8-10" from the landing out to the shacks. With this rain and warm weather: shore landings, near creek mouths and shallow back bays may deteriorate quickly. I did speak to one of the guides with the shacks out at the mouth and they reported 8-10" with cracks to watch out for. As always be safe, check ice yourself as you go out and return to shore as conditions can change quickly with this weather. Also if you do venture out near the mouth of Little Sturgeon either in the middle or near the points be very mindful of wind direction, as it is reported that there is open water on the big bay leaving room for a sheet of ice to blow out.

Ice conditions on Little Sturgeon 1/18/24: Off the east shore from Stevenson Pier Rd, a little lumpy averaging 7-8". Off the west shore from Carmody Park alongside Wave Pointe, very smooth averaging 6-7" approximately 30' at shore with 3-4" of water on top of the ice. Middle of the bay, very far inner/back bays and outer bay near the points not checked. As always check ice yourself as you go.

And just like that winter arrived in Little Sturgeon! Please be patient for safe ice and be safe this week in the extremely cold weather. We have fuel treatment available for both gas and diesel vehicles to help prevent breakdowns due to the cold. Keep proper clothes and warming items with you in case of a breakdown.

No fisherman currently on Little Sturgeon this evening, there were a handful of people that walked out this week. Both myself and the 40 # pup are breaking through the top layer of crust into slush below. There is 12" of ice in the hole I drilled, as the photo shows white ice honey combing half way or more down. If you venture out this weekend be careful and good luck.

The ice in the main bay of Little Sturgeon is still 8-12". Avoid back bays, shallow points, and areas near running creeks. The only machines I see out are tracked UTV and snowmobiles. The 20" plus snow we have is compacted a little from the sun but travel is difficult as the firmness in the snow is gone around noon leaving areas of slush. The weight of the snow was pushing water up the holes in the shack so I had to move it. Enjoy your weekend.

It's going to be a great weekend in Little Sturgeon, Little Sturgeon Lunkers Derby Saturday and the snowmobile trails are open. 8-12" of ice under the snow, travel is a little tough due to the snow but manageable. Avoid the areas around the creeks as they are running and eating up the ice in front of them. Also be very cautious in the back bay shallows as the previous warm weather really deteriorated areas. Enjoy your weekend.

We pulled the shacks back out on Little Sturgeon today and found a solid 10-12" of smooth and very slippery ice. I'm running studded tires, if you are not take it easy out there speed wise and definitely wear your ice creepers. Good luck out there this weekend.

The ice in Little Sturgeon is firm, great traction from yesterday's snow, landings are still firm. We took the pups for a ride and found 10-14" of ice. Unfortunately with the forecast this week, it isn't looking great for the ice, so we're going to enjoy it while we have it. Good luck out there and remember if you venture near the outer edge of Little Sturgeon be very cautious as the SW wind could move the ice out into the big bay this weekend, with the only way to get back is with a ride in a boat... We're fully stocked with rosys, medium shiners, walleye shiners, golden shiners, any tackle you might need, and snacks and beverages. Enjoy your weekend.

Well that Packer win hit the palate well, but if you're still hungry a Stevenson Pier pizza might hit the spot, and they're great grilled. Start it for about 10 minutes on the stone raised by a pan then finish with the stone directly on the grill for another 5-10 minutes.

Quite the sunset the anglers were treated to tonight on Little Sturgeon Bay! We have everything you need for a trip out there: bait, tackle, snacks and drinks. Anglers are reporting 3-6" of ice in the inner bay, if you venture out please be careful and check the ice as you go
