El Tesoro Blanco Tequila

Produced at distillery La Alteña (NOM 1139) and overseen by one of the modern tequila world’s top master distillers, Carlos Camarena (a fifth-generation agave farmer and tequila producer), El Tesoro Blanco is a high quality, traditionally made, and always reliable workhorse tequila that makes for both a delicious daily sipper and an excellent mixer.

Made with brix (sugar) rich 100% Blue Weber agave from Jalisco’s Highlands, the blanco is produced using stone/brick ovens, extraction of the sugars (aguamiel) using a traditional 2-ton volcanic tahona stone wheel, open-air fermentation in wooden tanks with agave fibers added for extra flavor, double distillation in a copper pot still, and deep well water. It is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV), which is at or near the distillation proof.

COLOR: Crystal clear & shimmering (like pure water)

AROMA PROFILE: Sweet Cooked Agave & Baking Spices (including Cinnamon & Nutmeg); Minerals from the deep well water; Citrus; a hint of sweet Spiced Vanilla; a light Vegetal/Herbal note

PALATE: Sweet Cooked Agave & Baking Spices (including Cinnamon & Nutmeg); Fruity notes including Citrus; a Vegetal/Herbal note; Black Pepper; a hint of sweet Spiced Vanilla; Earthy

MOUTHFEEL: Viscous & full; Creamy/Oily/Buttery; Silky smooth

FINISH: Medium

How Water Type Affects Tequila Production & Flavor Profiles

Master distiller Felipe Camarena, owner of distillery El Pandillo (NOM 1579), one of the best tequila producers, changes flavors using a mix of water types in different tequilas. He uses rain water, mineral-rich deep well water, & natural spring water from the distillery's estate for different brands El Pandillo produces.

So G4 doesn't taste like Terralta which doesn't taste like Volans.

He even switches it up between different expressions within the same brand, like G4, his house brand.

The regular 80 proof blanco uses a mix of natural local spring & rain water but the Madera Blanco uses deep well water, is 90 proof, & rests in pine vats. G4's 108 proof blanco usually doesn't rest in those vats, but they've just released some bottles that are a blend of no-wood rested & 30% pine vat rested.

All of this affects the final flavor profiles.

COCKTAIL SERIES – Modified (Shaken) Ranch Water

*2 to 3 ounces of blanco/plata tequila of choice (which one you choose will affect the finished product; You can use less tequila if you like.

*1.5 to 2 ounces of fresh lime juice (to taste)

*100% Blue Agave nectar to taste

*Sparkling mineral water (whichever brand you prefer)

Shake all of the ingredients well (but not too long) in a cocktail shaker with ice.
Serve in a tumbler or other type of glass (as you prefer) over fresh ice and enjoy.

Shaking the ingredients briefly but vigorously combines them much more seamlessly and makes for a more enjoyable cocktail.

COCKTAIL SERIES – Cranberry Bourbon Sour

-2 ounces of bourbon
-2 ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice
-1 ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec
-1.5 ounces of fresh lime or lemon juice
-Dash of 100% Blue Agave nectar (or Simple Syrup)
*Shake with ice.
