VinePair:

Each of Outward Wines’ scenic labels provides a small window into the lives of its founders, Ryan Pace and Natalie Siddique: A distant mountain range on the Shell Creek Chenin Blanc, an arid desert on the Massa Vineyard Cabernet Franc, or even a glimpse into the depths of the Pacific Ocean on the winery’s new Bassi Vineyard Pinot Noir. These illustrations showcase the many microclimates of California’s Central Coast, where Pace and Siddique live, explore, and, of course, make wine.

Pace grew up in California in a winemaking family — his father was the longtime general manager of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars — and fell in love with the lifestyle and culture of wine. He knew he wanted to be involved in the industry from the start, working harvests in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, and across California, and studied viticulture at Cal Poly. Siddique had a less conventional path to wine, growing up in Cincinnati as a daughter of two first-generation immigrants from Russia and Bangladesh. She started her career in international relations, and found herself living in Bangladesh after graduation. A change of heart bought her a one-way ticket to California where she set out to start a rock climbing business. Pace and Siddique met while climbing, bonded over their mutual sense of adventure, and started Outward Wines together in 2016.

People ask me all the time what my favorite bottle in the shop is. It changes daily. But I can honestly say this is my fav red of the summer. Don’t sleep on Cinsault. Hands down that is my current fav grape. This little gem is super light, bright and everything perfect for a hot summers day.

South Africa, Western Cap

NOTES FROM THE WINEMAKER

This smashable Cinsault wine is something between a Rosé and a Light Red – I call it a Rosé on steroids. Bottled in a flint(see-through) bottle to show-off it’s beautiful colour and made to enjoy in Spring and Summer, slightly chilled. I’m a massive fan of Cinsault and believe it’s something we do very well in the SA sunshine and especially when given some love here in the Breedekloof valley. It’s juicy, generous with red fruit flavours and has just a touch of grip and tangy presence on the palate from the 50% whole bunch fermentation.

NEU Wine Drop!!!!!

We’ve got back in the shop and we can’t wait to share them with you. In fact we’ll be popping this 💯Pinot Noir Bubbly for Wine Sample Sunday this weekend.

Even though NEU Cellars is from Michigan I oddly enough first ran across John’s natty wines in Chicago at a few years back. These super small batch, low interview wines are TOTALLY DOPE.

Everything is hand-picked and sorted on-site. In the cellar everything is spontaneously fermented, meaning only native yeast and native bacteria that exist on the grapes and in the cellar environment produce the wine. There are no additions or subtractions. If there were an ingredient label it would read: grapes.

In stock & Super Limited:

- Pinot Noir Rose
- Sparkling Pinot Noir
- Skin Contact Riesling
