It was a Pinot Noir, Gamay evening - good, decent, Southern Burgundy.
We were drinking away with good friends who have been patrons for a long time; good people who have stood by us.
We'll do this for a day or two more.....
We are at the tail end of High Country Market Bistro and Gastropub as we know it. In a week or so, we'll be starting a new chapter - a wine and spirits store and a private wine club "speak-easy" in Round Rock, TX.

A Wine Dinner at the Gill's, with the dinner menu at the fantasy of our host, Madam Tina Gill; of course, credit is due to Indy Gill for bringing out his better- half's cuisine to the table. Rest assured, given that the food and the venue were outstanding, all the guests truly bettered the evening.

A great lineup.
- Poggio Al Tesoro 'Il Seggio' Bolgheri Superiore, 2020.
- Isole e Olena 'Cepparello' Toscana IGT, 2019.
- Aia Vecchia 'Sor Ugo' Bolgheri Superiore, 2021.
- Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5°, Ribera del Duero, 2016.
Every wine in this lineup was part and parcel of a great vintage.
Tuscany has had five stellar vintages - 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021; and where 2016 and 2021 are special for collectors. However, the 2019 and 2020 were very clean, linear, long and full of "French" complexity
Spain was similar, where the 2016 vintage was and is revered.

Château Pavie tasting with Didier Adam (from Château Pavie) and Edward Cannan (Joanne-US, Bordeaux distributors and negociant for Château Pavie).
Château Pavie also owns Arômes de Pavie (their 2nd wine) and Château Monbousquet. The Pavie house makes some of the best wines from the right bank in Saint-Emilion. To add, the terroir is fantastic - rolling hills among some of the most notable neighbors.

Friday evening at the Round Rock Wine Bar - Australia, specifically McLaren Vale. Tried a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Shiraz, and a grenache dominant GSM.

Last night at the Round Rock Wine Bar. The theme started a trying a "challenged" vintage from the left bank vs a great vintage from the right bank; to add, one of the wines had to be a "well priced" wine and the other, slightly higher end.
The result: 2 wines from the 2011 vintage from Pauillac and two wines from the 2016 vintage froom Pomerol.
Lineup:
- Ch Haut Batailley, Pauillac, 2011.
- Ch Pontet-Canet, Pauillac, 2011.
- Ch Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol, 2016.
- Ch Fayat, Pomerol, 2016.
Fav's: the Pontet-Canet won the evening with the group. However, the Le Bon Pasteur was my personal favorite.
As is typical at this wine bar, the evening continued with more wine.
- Bodega Vinicola, Monte Xanic, Gran Ricardo (Winery from) Baja, Mexico, 2018 (this Bordeaux blend is an exceptionally good wine made by Max Strygler's group).....my last bottle!
- Louis Jadot, Domaine Gagey, Ladoix, 'Le Clou D'Orge', Beaune, 2019.
- Bret Brothers, Pouilly Vinzelles, La Soufrandiere, Climat 'Les Quartz', 2011 (sadly, this wine had turned).

Yet, another great evening at the Round Rock Wine Bar. All the wines were decanted and showed without any faults or setbacks.
- Troplong Mondot, St.Emilion GC, 1er Grand Cru Classe, 2017. Although not a favored vintage, this bottle opened very well. A big, muscular Right Bank.
- Mongeard-Mugneret Gevrey-Chambertin 2015. Though a regular Chambertin, this was a vintage specific 2015. It was a wonderful Pinot Noir.
- Isole e Olena, Cepparello Estate, Tuscan IGT, 2019. This opened and drank just as it was rated - a 97 to 100 point wine. A "Burgundian" Super Tuscan! This wine is a keeper.
- Ch Léoville Barton, Saint-Julien GCC, 2005. Just spectacular. It drank better than the 2000 and the 2010.

Yesterday evening was a great wine night at the Round Rock Wine Bar. Rob McIntosh brought over a couple of wonderful oenophiles from Denmark and Germany, and they knew their wines!
Every wine opened was a 100 pointer - and they all showed spectacularly.
- Espectecale, Montsant, Garnatxa, 2016.
- Marchesi Antinori Tignanello, Single Vineyard Toscana IGT, 2019.
- Château Palmer Margaux GrandVin 2009.
- La Mission Haut Brion, 2015.
