This week we are featuring our Quesataco most commonly known as a Sammy Taco!

Do you know why it is called a Sammy Taco?

One day while Sammy (Samuel) was fixing a sink for our kitchen he saw one of our cooks making handmade tortillas. Which got him a bit hungry so he asked if she could add cheese, meat and everything else that they put into a regular taco. When he would come to the store the cook would always ask him if he wanted his taco and it became a regular thing. Just like that it was added to our menu and was named after him.

Esta semana presentamos nuestro Quesataco, más conocido como un Sammy taco.

¿Sabes de donde proviene su nombre?
Un día mientras Sammy (Samuel) arreglaba un fregadero de la cocina, vio a una de nuestras cocineras haciendo tortillas hechas a mano. Esto le dio un poco de hambre, así que le preguntó si podía agregarle queso, carne y todo lo demás que se le pone a un taco normal. Cuando iba a la tienda, la cocinera siempre le preguntaba si quería su taco y se convirtió en algo habitual. Así fue como se agregó a nuestro menú y recibió su nombre.

This week we are featuring “La Doña” which is our take on a classic cheeseburger. Do you know who invented the first cheeseburger?

In 1924 a 16 year old named Lionel Sternberger who worked at his fathers sandwich shop in Pasadena California is said to have put a slice of American cheese on a hamburger and called it a “cheese hamburger”.

In 1934, Charles Kaelin of Kaelin’s Restaurant in Louisville Kentucky claims to have invented the cheeseburger to add flavor to the hamburger. Kaelin’s was the first restaurant to call the sandwich a “cheeseburger”.

This week we are featuring our Tortas. Did you know that other countries around the world also have their own version of a torta. To some a torta might be a cake or pie like in Italy. In the Philippines tortas are omelettes. In the Middle East it can be different kinds of tarts. But here at Orchard View Taqueria we make our tortas with a fresh telera filled with your choice of meat and a various of toppings.

Esta semana presentamos nuestras Tortas. ¿Sabías que otros países del mundo también tienen su propia versión de una torta? Para algunos, una torta puede ser un pastel como en Italia. En el Medio Oriente pueden ser diferentes tipos de tartas. Pero aquí en la taqueria de Orchard View Market preparamos nuestras tortas con una telera fresca rellena con la carne de su selección y una variedad de aderezos.

Do you know the history of how Burrito’s got their name?🌯

There is one theory that the inventor of the burrito was names Juan Méndez, who sold tacos in the city of Ciudad Juárez during the Mexican Revolution. According to this story, Méndez rode around on a donkey, and wrapped the food in large flour tortillas to keep it warm. The “food of the donkey” became very popular and earned its name “burrito” (“Little Donkey” in Spanish) 🫏

The second theory is of an unnamed street vendor in Ciudad Juárez, who created the burrito in the 1940’s to sell to poor children at a nearby school. His affectionate nickname for the children was “burritos”, slang for “slow” or “dimwitted”, and thats was how the food got its name. 🫏

The third theory is in which the burrito was invented in Sonora as a food that was easy to carry around while traveling. Since traveling was commonly done by donkey, the burrito was named after the travel companion. 🫏

Existe una teoría que alega que el inventor del burrito fue un hombre llamado Juan Méndez, quien vendía tacos en la Ciudad Juárez durante la Revolución Mexicana. Según esa historia, Méndez montaba un b***o y envolvía la comida en grandes tortillas de harina para mantenerla caliente. La “comida del b***o” se hizo muy popular y se ganó el nombre de “burrito”. 🫏

La segunda teoría habla de un vendedor anónimo en Ciudad Juárez, que creó el burrito en la década de 1940 para véndelo a niños pobres en una escuela cercana. Su apodo cariñoso para los niños era “burritos”, jerga que segundo a “lento” o “tonto”, y así fue como la comida obtuvo su nombre. 🫏

Did you know that our Taqueria makes Mulitas?

A Mulita is a combination between a Taco and a Quesadilla. It is made with 2 tortillas instead of 1 tortilla. Similar to a sandwich it is made with a tortilla on bottom then filled with Cheese, Meat, Cilantro, Onion, and Guacamole Salsa then another tortilla on top.

Una mulita es una combinación entre un taco y una quesadilla. Se hace con 2 tortillas en lugar de 1. Similar a un sandwich, se hace con tortilla en la parte inferior y luego se rellena con queso, carne, cilantro, cebolla, y salsa de guacamole y luego otra tortilla encima.
