Special Reserve is a lower-strength single-barrel bourbon from Blanton’s. Each bottle is hand-filled, hand-labeled, hand-sealed, and individually numbered. Otherwise known as “Green Label,” Blanton’s SR is an admitted beginner’s bourbon. “At 80 proof Blanton’s Special Reserve is ideal for those new to single barrel bourbons”.

Blanton’s Black Edition Bourbon Whiskey takes Blanton’s proven distilling process and takes it up several notches. The method used to craft this special edition bottle stays true to his traditional ways, except with a slightly extended age time of eight years, producing a more intricate flavor with an elaborate flavor profile. Another difference is the use of a sour mash bill, which is when the contents of a previous batch are used much like a sourdough starter, producing a significantly richer taste. At the time of its creation, the bourbon was made exclusively for the Japanese export market, making it a rare find even today and the perfect choice for any Blanton aficionado. It features a potent and intense flavor profile that perfectly balances pepper, butter, and honey, and finishes clean and smooth.

There’s a lot of spice that immediately hits your nose, with subtle hints of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch. Deeper within the nose are whiffs of leather and nutmeg with trace amounts of cinnamon. Most surprising is the amount of oak that comes off of it for a relatively young bourbon. If you smell long enough you may even discover some sweet barbecue sauce.

Taken from the center-cut or middle sections of the famous Warehouse H, Blanton’s Original Single Barrel was once designated for ambassadors, dignitaries, and Colonel Blanton’s family and friends. Today, everyone has access to the world’s first single barrel bourbon. The taste profile is sweet, with notes of citrus and oak. The creamy vanilla nose is teased with caramel and butterscotch, all underscored by familiar baking spices such as clove, nutmeg, or cinnamon. Blanton’s Original set the standard for single barrel bourbons in 1984. Best served neat or on the rocks. Bottled at 46.5% alcohol by volume.
