Oak Ridge Ranger Program: Hike With A Ranger Along the North Boundary Greenway

Grab your coat and lace up your boots! Join us Saturday, November 27th at 10 am EST for a hike along the North Boundary Greenway in Oak Ridge, TN. Over the 2.5 mile (4 km) loop, rangers will discuss the settlements that pre-date Oak Ridge. This free, all-ages hike passes multiple pre-Oak Ridge homesites and a limestone quarry. The route follows a gravel road with a mild elevation gain of 150 feet (45 meters). Please wear appropriate footwear, dress for the weather, and bring drinking water.

We will meet at East Quarry Road Trailhead on the northside of the Oak Ridge Parkway between Wisconsin Avenue and Sweetgum Lane. Parking is available on a gravel lot at the trailhead. Great opportunity to paddle with a ranger.

Oak Ridge Ranger Program: Paddle With A Ranger

Join rangers in Oak Ridge, TN this Saturday, October 30th at 10 am EDT as we paddle along the Clinch River to the Freels Bend Cabin, a pre-Manhattan Project homestead built in the 19th century. The cabin has borne witness to history before, during, and after the Manhattan Project.

This free, all-ages program will begin and end at Clark Center Park, 7620 Bull Bluff Rd. Oak Ridge, TN 37932. During the program rangers will discuss the history of the Manhattan Project and its connection to the Clinch River. You must bring your own kayak and all participants are required to wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device during the program. Ensure your boats and equipment are serviceable prior to the event. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and appropriate footwear.

Oak Ridge Ranger Program: Walk with a Ranger Through Jackson Square

Join Manhattan Project National Historical Park rangers this Saturday, October 23rd at 10:00 am EDT for a walk through Jackson Square, one of the Manhattan Project’s bustling 24-hour shopping centers within the secret city. We will explore how routine, tradition, and the comforts of home helped keep Oak Ridge residents focused on the mission rather than their own hardships. In addition to Jackson Square, we will walk to the Alexander Inn Guest House and the Chapel on the Hill during this program.
