David (13-14 Northwood Kensett) slayed Goliath (34-1 Newman Catholic) 8-3 AT Newman Catholic high school Saturday night to advance to the sub state final Tuesday night at 7 against Kee in Charles City with a trip to state on the line on Power 96.
A six run 3rd inning propelled the Vikings to victory, including a grand slam off the bat of senior Cade Hengesteg as well as a 2 run single by junior Jace Gentz who also hit a solo home run in the 5th to put Northwood Kensett ahead 8-0. The Knights, ranked #1 in Class 1a Iowa high school baseball scored 3 in the 6th but that was it as Senior Ethan Tasker struck out 9 in 5 and 2/3 innings of work on the mound scattering 6 hits for the biggest upset win I can recall in my 18 years in this area. We're talking #1 vs #47 in Class 1a rankings and in all 4 classes together #219 beat #4!

Grant applications can now be submitted to the Worth County Community Foundation’s 2021 grant cycle! The online application and grant guidelines may be found on the Community Foundation’s website at www.worthccf.org. The deadline to submit applications is 5:00 p.m. on September 30, 2021.

In 2020, a total of $87,227.10 in grants were awarded to 17 area nonprofits and government agency projects serving Worth County. Since 2017, the Worth County Community Foundation, through the generosity of the Jaspers family, has awarded $174,046 in grants benefitting Worth County residents and communities.
